Van Czar returns to Basiks with a brand new collaboration with Majed on their Panimic EP which comes packed with four quality remixes as well as the outstanding original. Van is fresh from his latest vinyl release – The Force, which featured the Saunderson family including Dantiez, Ann and the legendary Kevin. This is not the first time Van and Majed have joined forces in the studio, back in 2014 they put out the In Vino EP and then Majed stepped in on remix duties for Cysxe & Minitech Projects Acid Planet EP.
The Original Mix is a trek deep into the techno sound and full of wonderfully crafted sounds to mesmerize us. A very subtle kickdrum leads the way and is backed up by crispy hats and a tight percussion arrangement that delivers a smooth rhythmic flow. A cacophony of warm synths fill the void as a subdued bassline lurks deeper in the groove. A straight up dark techno offering that is a must have for sure.
Brazilian DJ and producer Lauro Martins returns to Bonzai Basiks with a superb remix. We first got a glimpse back in the Summer of 2015 with his debut remix on Cysxe’s OXO EP which gained great support from many quarters. The remix here intros with a fantastic kick that packs a lot of low end and leaves a nice trail of bass in its wake. Subtle synths crop up throughout but here it’s definitely all about the bass. The bassline rattles along with a dominating force and moves in so many ways that will leave bassbins wanting more. A real deep and moody techno monster here that you gotta get into your collection.
Amsterdam based DJ and producer Sirena aka Renske van Kollenburg debuts on Bonzai Basiks with this stunning remix. Sirena boasts 15 years of active involvement in the electronic music scene and Ibiza’s DC10 sounds. She started out as a music journalist and from there she secured many contacts in the scene and started to work on various projects including Ultra Music Festival Miami, Coachella Festival USA, Awakenings, Amsterdam Dance Event, IMS Ibiza, ID&T, Pacha and Arminís label Armada. 2015 will see her release her first creations on Bonzai and KMS. Here she takes a deep and dubby techno approach to the remix. The muffled intro fades into existence with beautifully warm pads that are soon joined by a chunky kickdrum and superb chord stabs that will definitely have the booties shakin to the no doubt. Crispy hats come through and keep the rhythm flowing as the groove deepens. A top notch effort that will see a lot of playtime for sure.
Sirius Brown returns to Basiks with his remix and gets the energy levels ramped up a notch with a much more pacey and harder hitting techno slice. We last saw Sirius back in February 2015 with his debut – Click Time, which saw good support coming in from many quarters. Here the remix gets moving with a tough thumpy kickdrum alongside some sharp crispy hats that dish out a cool rhythm. Sinister sounding synths glide through the sound with a wide resonance filter that gives it a harsh edge. On the break the synths continue to dig into your brain as a very dark haunting voice comes through and fits perfectly with the sound. A wonderful slice of the deeper, darker side of techno.
A firm favourite around these shores – Onofrio Conte offers up his slice of techno on the remix. This guy has been around for a while now and has dished out some quality sounds for Bonzai Basiks and Sounds R Us Recordings. Always a pleasure to see his work come through and we know what to expect when his name is attached. The remix throws up a real techno stomper as chunky kicks are met with a tight rhythmic hat and percussion arrangement. Super cool basses operate on various layers and provide a solid platform for the techno grooves to flow. In the background a myriad of FX go off adding some wonderful textures to the sound while on the break we get treated to a simple kick with haunting atmospherics before we get thrust back to the main groove for the duration. Excellent techno groove for the floors here and a must have for those darker sets.
