Rafa Alcantara debuts on Bonzai Progressive with the superb Hadron & Kepler EP. Also known as DJ Killer, Rafa is one of the most influential DJ’s in Spain having been instrumental in building the electronic music scene there. From the early 90’s he has been a constant presence on the local scene as well as playing on the world stage at top festivals and clubs. He co-founded Negritta Records in 2000 and quickly became noticed by the likes of Pete Tong who offered great support on BBC Radio 1. A great pleasure to have him on board at BP and we hope to see more in the future.
Hadron is a real chunky slice of progressive house goodness, filling out the speakers with a wide spectrum of sounds, combined beautifully from that wholly immersive experience. Nice punchy kicks lead the way along with slicing hi hats and rhythmic percussions. At its core, the track has a real tech vibe thanks to those stuttering synths while the bassline probes and probes with relentless prowess to form a truly progressive construction. A solid cut that will not disappoint.
Kepler ramps up the energy levels with a boisterous groove filled with mesmerizing tones. A tight drum section powers the groove and is backed up with a deep, penetrating bassline. Rhythmic percussions add extra swing to the groove as cascading synth patterns paint colourful pictures to invade the imagination. A seriously powerful cut here, definitely one for the peak time, mid-set session to be the highlight of the night.
