RECENT POSTS: Progrez
Debuting on Progrez we have the talented Yuriy From Russia – who is in fact – from Russia. Yuriy has appeared on many labels and boasts a very impressive back catalogue. Here we are treated to a single tracker entitled “Stalker” which is a perfect addition to the Progrez repertoire.
Standard issue intro with a nice chunky kick and hats providing the building blocks for a ride through the progressive underworld. A very sinister sounding deep bassline is the main focus here, the bass takes full control and the note changes are infectious. The percussions build layer after layer and subtle FX work brings the vibe together. Deep prog synths come through on the break alongside a brilliant pad then the bass comes to take pride of place once more, simply stunning stuff!
Ukrainian producer Yaroslav Lenzyak aka Pozitive returns with a quality two track release entitled “Colibri”. Pozitive is rising fast on the international circuit and he delivers his sounds using many different hardware synths and controllers to great effect.
The title track “Colibri” intros with a dark vibe manifested in the deep thud on the kicks and deep bass drone. Very subtle percussions begin to work their way into the sound while a melancholic plinky piano sound comes through. The track continues to build and a real cool deep prog groove ensues. On the way we are treated to an awesome surreal melody and some stunning pad work, great stuff!
“In The Sky” takes a slightly different route on the intro with a much more techy approach. Cool bright sounds work well together before a tight kick comes in along with a superb analogue style bass. Plenty of FX here that fits perfectly in the sound and as we continue the track begins to become much more progressive with a brilliant melody. The bass transforms into a warm lush affair and on the break we are in full prog mode leading up to a fantastic climax and then right back into the groove, very cool sounds perfect for any playlist.
Based in Kiev, Ukraine, Ivan Shadrin aka Ego Progressus debuts on Progrez with this stunning dark themed progressive monster. Ivan is very much an advocate of the darker side of prog and this come through in his live sets. He has developed an outstanding musical taste and it is this that inspires him to form out his dark and sometimes tribal vibes.
Kicking off we have the short “Hypno Intro”, straight away you feel the dark elements within Ivan’s sound, deep sinister vocals and haunting pads combine well to create an intensely charged atmosphere, nice start!
The title track “Hypnosphere” intros with a good old solid kick and bass combi with crispy clear percussions showing up. This track then begins a journey that builds layer upon layer, on this journey the tension rises as the dark elements begin to creep through. On the break the true dark nature of this tune is exposed and we get a climax of pure, raw progressive house with a classic tribal undertone. Very well crafted track and a must for those darker sets.
“Mare Orientale” takes on a much more industrial theme with a lot of metallic sounds yet retaining that prog house vibe. We still get the dark grooves and eerie sounds, the beauty of this track is the multitude of sounds that do a great job of keeping you hooked, if only to hear what other sounds come through. A top notch track indeed and one you will listen to over and over.
Debuting on Progrez we have Cristian Perera Moray aka Moray. Cristian started off producing Hip Hop back when he was a teenager and in 2010 he began to move into the EDM arena. He is learning the tricks of his trade the hard way by self learning the very complex process of music production. This release, entitled “Feel Better EP” is a reflection of that process and is a very impressive example of how far he has come.
“Between The Walls” intros with a mixture of percs, FX and bass, a perfect combination which builds and builds into a powerful groove. Very subtle sound lulls you into a false sense of security when the full potential of the track is unleashed with stunning synth work and expert arrangement, top notch stuff.
“Have A Nice Day” takes us on a wonderful journey through warm lush basses and deep fuelled vibes. Throbbing kicks are matched with a chunky synth and a myriad of percussive sounds give a real solid feel to the groove. On the break gritty synths and strings hypnotise while a simple vocal sample adds an extra layer, a real solid bit of work here and a must for any playlist.
Belgian producer R Varez aka RV turns out a progressive tech working for Progrez with his track “Disorder” which is backed up with two stunning remixes. RV’s last outing came in the form of “Mamba” on Eyepatch which was very well recieved. Something a little different here and a difference that will not disappoint.
The original mix is a pure mind bender of a track, the vibe on this will have you hooked in for the duration against your will. Awesome sublime FX work on the vocals set the track up well with the synth work add extra weight. Superb groove with strong drum and percussion arrangement and rounded off with a wonderful deep bass. Serious stuff here and those vocals are really top notch.
The Revolving Junkie aka UK based producer Phil Kieran steps up to remix duty with a simply stunning effort. Nice flowing rhythms in the lush kicks and crispy hats, an almost acid bassline adds strength to this and gives a minimal feeling. On the first break some very clever FX work shines through on the synths with a brilliant shift in the beats with some shuffling. Very well constructed remix with a couple of amazing surprises!
Based in Madrid but hailing from Belgium, Van Czar is up next to the mixing desk with his Toxicology Remix. Van is a very busy man these days with DJ gigs a weekly feature along with his studio work. He has also started his own radishow on Vicious Radio in Madrid where he will showcase the latest works to come out of the Bonzai stable along with a look back at some of the classics from yesteryear. Van’s remix takes things right into the depths of tech, very dark vibe and brilliant use of the original vocals to which Van attaches his unique style of FX work. Very strong deep groove which is a must for any box!
Metronomes are a progressive DJing and production duo by Jon ManimaL & Magros, the guys return to Progrez fresh off the back of their last release “Spiders” with this two tracker entitled “Inceptions”.
The title track begins with a monstrous kick complete with a sharp clip on top, this builds and builds with many different percussions entering the fray. A super deep bassline gives lots of depth to the sound and on the break we get a very intense arrangement of FX which leads us back into a strong solid groove, perfect fodder for any prog set.
You would be forgiven if you thought this next track had anything to do with the cult movie classic The Big Lebowski whereby one of the characters named “Jesus” utters the phrase “Nobody Fucks With The Jesus” which is also the name of this track. The track intros with another huge kick with a cacophony of percs following suit, a roaring deep bassline will pound your senses and the floor. Quite minimal track all round with a big focus on percussions, another fine example from this talented duo.

The title “Fear” starts us off very subtly before a thumping bass crashes through along with some minimal percussive elements and a kick drum that teases throughout. Some real nice pads and stabs provide an epic feel while the FX on offer are top notch. This one is a builder and as the journey unfolds we are left in the midst of a true, proper progressive groove.
The much more melodic in nature “Mururoa” takes us to a different side of prog, hypnotic rhythms, vocals and upbeat melodies all make for a cool trip across this spectrum. The overall groove is quite laidback but this definitely has a huge punch and will perform well in any set.
