The ingenious Oliver Lieb aka L.S.G. is back at Bonzai Progressive with the superb Cepheid which is taken from his very well received 2017 album – Double Vision. This is the third track to get a single release off the album and is the perfect showcase for this guy and his immense talent. Without doubt one of the most influential figures in electronic music for almost three decades. Since 1988 this guy has been at the cutting edge of electronic music and has seen himself transition between multiple genres, dominating in every one. Oliver is also renowned for his other monikers Paragliders and Spicelab among many others as well as working in several very successful groups. He has released on labels including Superstition, Harthouse, Hooj, JOOF and Platipus as well as our very own XTC, Bonzai Trance Progressive, Tripomatic and Tranceportation. His CV includes a plethora of remixes including Faithless, Moby, Human League and Mory Kante to name a few. In 2010 he started Solieb Digital where he would unleash his back catalogue in re-mastered glory. Always one to watch, so much more to come from this guy.
Notching up his third Bonzai Progressive release, we welcome back Iga Dep with Phobia which is backed up with three quality remixes. With releases on several imprints over the years, Iga Dep never fails to impress with his unique, dynamic sound. His first two releases on BP proved very popular indeed and we’ve no doubt this one will follow suit.
After a successful vinyl run which included the Robert Babicz # 1 remix and the Original, we now have the digital release from Van Czar & Ken Ishii’s Kitai which includes a brand new Dub Mix to keep things spicy. Belgian technoist Van Czar continues to impress with his creative talent, he is all about the music with quality always at the forefront. This one is Van’s third vinyl cut on Bonzai in recent years and we hope to see much more in the future. Ken Ishii began his long career in music when he got signed to R&S Records back in 1993. His music resonated throughout the world and gained him countless awards in the process. Ken has been regarded internationally as one of the Japanese pioneers who can create world class electronic sounds. In 1998, he produced the official theme song for the winter Olympics in Nagano, Japan and it was played in more than 140 countries around the world. Down the years he has also produced music for films and has toured the world several times, unleashing his special brand of techno to the masses.
Techno DJ and producer Ben Knoxx bursts onto the scene with a vibrant, fresh approach to pumping Techno. His first outing for Bonzai was over on our flagship Bonzai Progressive imprint with a remix on Gabriel West & Ricardo Piedra’s Tonic EP. This time he debuts on Bonzai Basiks with Do You Want which is backed up with a sublime remix from the legendary CJ Bolland. Ben Knoxx has all the tools required to churn out quality cuts having been present in the club scene for many years and, he is also a veteran in the music industry as well as a Bonzai legend. A string of Hard Trance and Techno hits in the 90’s certainly put this guy on the map and in more recent years he’s put himself into many different genres under various guises with great success. A new found enthusiasm and outside influences have developed into a desire to get back in the studio and come up with the goods.
Belfast’s own techno guru Louis Irvine returns to Bonzai Basiks with yet another bass bin busting joint that will definitely keep the techno heads very happy indeed. In just a few short years Louis has carved out his own niche with the Bonzai family. A string of quality cuts including Saturn, Alpas, In My Mind and Malfunction performed very well indeed, as did his collaboration with fellow Irishman Conor Doherty on their Orenda project. If you like your techno raw and straight up banging, then you’ve come to the right place.
Belgian technoist Van Czar returns to his Bonzai Basiks home with another superb cut in the form of Cherry Lovers. Van is all about the music, he never fails to deliver the goods, with quality always at the forefront. Aside from creating cuts like this he is constantly on the lookout for great new music for his label CZ, which is already gathering a hugely impressive back catalogue of sounds. Last time around on BB Van gave us the impressive Danse Du Petit Matin which was very well received indeed. He has also released several techno gems on his own CZ both as a solo artist and in collaboration with several artists. We always look forward to his latest offerings, he never disappoints.
Belgian online platform Red Bull Elektropedia have – as part of our 25 years celebrations – commissioned a series of special reworks of some of our notable classics. Red Bull Elektropedia have been a major force in documenting Belgian culture and nightlife since 2009. Their output exudes professionalism and the content is always interesting and accurately detailed. We’ve worked with them in the past and when they said they wanted to help us celebrate this year, of course we accepted. They have enlisted the talents of some of Belgium’s finest contemporary music artists to work their magic, and we couldn’t be more happy with the results. The reworks are available on CD, Digital and Vinyl and if you head over to Red Bull Elektropedia’s website you will find excellent mini docus on each artist. On top of that they have also produced an in depth documentary around the Bonzai story. Featuring rare unseen footage of Bonzai studios and the artists that passed through its doors, we also get various testimonies on the good times and tougher times from label founder Christian Fly Pieters and business partner Marnik Braeckevelt as well as contributions from several other key players from the early Bonzai days, artists and fans. The documentary will be aired at special screenings on 14th October 2017 and then general release online shortly after.
Belfast technoist Louis Irvine returns to Bonzai Basiks with the stomping beats and penetrating basses of his new Saturn EP. This is his first solo effort since his Alpas EP back at the end of 2016. Just after that he had two smashers alongside fellow Irishman Conor Doc with Shade EP and Sequence EP under their Orenda guise. We know Louis loves to ramp up the deeper frequencies so make sure you set your bassbins to maximum effect.
One of our longstanding artists Sa.Du aka Greek techno guru Thanos Dimitriou returns with another stomper Last Chance. This guy has dished out some serious bangers in the last 6 years and it’s no wonder we get excited when his new material comes through the inbox. To date Sa.Du has a very impressive list of released tracks and remixes across various top quality labels including, Bonzai Basiks, B-Limited, Eyepatch Recordings, Bonzai Progressive, Ak-Tek Records, Mint & Mustard Recordings, Wasabi Records, Hi Fi Stories and many, many more. Thanos is someone who puts all his efforts into making music that speaks to the listener in a way that gets ingrained on the memory, in his own words – “Each track has a piece from my mind and my soul”. With a philosophy like this you can be sure that only the best will do.
