We continue our remixed classics series with another trawl through the vaults to bring you contemporary takes of our much loved tracks. This time we are proud to present Quadran – Unlovable with a fantastic remix from Nico Parisi featuring Loredana. The original 1998 version featured the stunning vocalist Tasha Joan Paul who also wrote the lyrics alongside Philippe Van Mullem for this vocal trance smasher. Tasha also provided her talents on Quadran’s follow up to this with the equally impressive The Love I Lost as well as writing and vocalising Planisphere’s Memories Of The Light and Indoctrinate’s Waiting For You. Quadran were and always will be synonymous with pioneering the vocal trance sound. Since the beginning Philippe Van Mullem and Philippe Toutlemonde set out on a quest to deliver a unique sound which was nurtured by the infamous Bonzai Trance Progressive label – which was created for the very purpose of pursuing this groundbreaking sound the guy’s created. Philippe Van Mullem carried on Quadran’s mission well into the 21st Century before he sadly passed away, leaving behind a legacy that still inspires to this day. Nico Parisi is a longstanding Bonzai stalwart with a series of quality cuts under his belt. He is also a veteran on the scene with over 20 years in the bag – starting out DJing in several Belgian clubs before releasing his first material on Atmoz. In recent years he’s also been a regular fixture at our annual Bonzai Retro parties as well as various other huge events in Belgium. Nico brings Loredana aka Loredana de Amicis in on vocal duties and what an impact she has on the sound. She joined 2 Fabiola in 2008 belting out the classics as well as new music to the masses with special appearances at top festivals and parties.
Randy Seidman & Ido return to Bonzai Progressive with the superb Dreamwalker which features two solid remixes from Rishi K. and Seth Vogt. Randy is one of the hardest working electronic music artists in Los Angeles. Since 2007, he has been the top support choice of Infected Mushroom, playing over 450 shows with them around the world (from Ecuador to India, Mexico to Russia, Canada to Ibiza, New York to Madrid, and countless places in between). He has had a stream of releases supported by the likes of Armin Van Buuren, Sander Kleinenberg, Ad Brown, Omid 16b, and Matan Caspi to name just a few. Ido marks his return to BP after his quality remix on Randy’s (along with Steve Porter) Safe Passage track just a few months ago. This guy has a seriously impressive release count on several labels and he has enjoyed great support from many quarters over the years. He has also worked alongside Randy in the past as well as other top artists in their field. Great to see both guys back for more.
Luis Ormeño joins forces with Jaair for their debut on Piston Recordings with the deliciously smooth Everybody Loves The Sunshine EP. 18 year old Luis is studying Music business, production and musical composition at Music College Peru and we think you’ll agree that he has certainly got an amazing talent that will definitely turn a few heads.
Athens, Greece based Tolis Q aka Apostolis Palantzas debuts on Piston Recordings with the superb three track EP entitled Foolish Behaviour. DJ, producer, remixer, label owner, party maker and entrepreneur are just some of the ways to describe this hugely talented artist. His love for music is transparent through his devotion to his calling, the reward comes in the shape of success having produced and signed tracks through his label Quantized Music which have been supported by some of the world’s cream of the crop. Regarded all over Greece for DJ sets bursting with euphoria, style and attitude, always unleashing his potential with powerful dance floor sessions that serve as both unique and unforgettable experiences. Delighted to have him on board at Piston.
The ever popular Matan Caspi returns with another sublime progressive slice in the form of Liquid Blue. His last effort – Shiny Coral Reefs – performed very well indeed with high chart positions and great support from many jocks. His remix of Tiesto – The Tube, as part of our special remix series celebrating 25 years, also gained great support and features on our 25 Years Bonzai 4CD release. Always an exciting time when Matan’s newest cut drops into the mailbox, he never disappoints.
Cherry aka Ukraine based DJ and producer Oleh Cherkes debuts on Bonzai Progressive with the superb Mnong. Filled with lush progressive grooves and tight drum arrangement, this is truly a very impressive debut. No stranger to the scene, Oleh has several releases on various labels and his music enjoys a lot of support from across the board. He is also known for his dynamic, building sets that always pleases the crowd. Great to have him on board here at BP and we hope to see much more soon.
Argentinean DJ and producer duo Agustin Dutari and Mauro Mosciaro return to Piston with more tech house grooves on the two track Momentum EP. We got a nice treat with their debut Behind The Beat a few months ago and we’ve no doubt this one will follow suit. These guys are two clear examples of how Argentinean dance culture is shifting and moving, especially towards the rhythms of house. In the studio they combine their skill sets to produce only the finest quality beats and grooves. Agustin utilises his DJ skills, which he has presented at top clubs including Pacha, Ibiza and in showcases for Ibiza Global Radio. He has also travelled the beautiful Balearic Islands playing at different beach clubs and bars such as Sands, Delano, White, Magic Boat Party and Veto Social Club. Mauro combines his career as a music producer with DJing. He runs his own studio and when he’s not laying down house laden beats he’s working with bands and solo artists as a sound engineer. Working together for the last couple of years they are able to hone in on each other’s ideas with some very nice results indeed.
Maximiliano and Vincent debut on Piston Recordings with the fantastic The Traveller EP which features a sublime slice from the duo as well as a solo effort from Maximiliano. Relative newcomers to the scene, these guys bring a fresh twist on the tech house sound. Max already has several releases under his belt this year while Vincent marks this as his debut release. Both guys come from the DJing world and their sets have wowed many crowds over the years. Great to have them on board and no doubt we’ll be hearing more from them in the future.
L.S.G. returns to Bonzai Progressive with the superb Supercycle which comes with a fantastic remix from Lily Pita. Supercycle first appeared on Oliver’s 2017 album Double Vision – which has received rave reviews from across the board thanks to the album’s complimentary two part structure. Oliver Lieb aka L.S.G. continues to be a hugely important figure to artists and music lovers, his career spans almost 3 decades and in that time he’s delivered hundreds of tracks under various guises. He is most known for his cutting edge techno and trance, but he also produces memorable downtempo, ambient and tech house. His works have featured on the legendary Superstition Records as well as other labels including Hooj Choons, Yoshitoshi, Platipus and Sven Vath’s Harthouse where his Spicelab moniker dominated. In 1996 his tracks were picked up for some of our own labels starting with an appearance on XTC Trax 3 with Fontana which led to other inclusions on compilations for Bonzai Trance Progressive, Tripomatic and Tranceportation. Over the last number of years he has moved into a much more audio engineering role with mastering being something he spends a lot of time doing among other things. A true legend in his field with lots more still to come no doubt.
Bilboni aka Slovene musician Goran Bilbija debuts on Bonzai Progressive with the wonderful two tracker entitled Off Road EP. Goran’s early starts in the field were marked by attending and concluding a music school, where he learnt to play the accordion. As a teenager, his passion for music accelerated to the point where he would spend all his monthly pocket money on borrowing/buying new records. Growing up, he started tasting the club life. Drawn by the electronic sounds, he would always be the last to go home. At that point he was inspired by the early Euro sounds such as LA Style, as well as EuroDance, Culture Beat, 2 Unlimited and Captain Jack to name a few. As a professional sportsman (handball), Goran had to give up on his music dreams for a while, yet he never completely stopped his production. At the age of 20, he established a successful music duo 2 Alive and signed quite a few contracts with various record labels. After years of music production, Goran finally decided to dedicate his time fully to music, issuing his very own tracks. Inspired by world famous DJ’s, such as Marco Carola, Richie Hawtin, Joseph Capriati, Luciano, Julian Jeweil and others, he sees himself most in tech house vibes. Being fully committed to his fans, he is always open for new suggestions and critique. Convinced that self-awareness is the key to delivering quality, you can certainly expect no less than a technical perfection of mesmerizing beats.
Barletta, Italy based DJ and producer Michele Battaglia debuts on Piston Recordings with the superb tech house fuelled Getta EP. Michele’s passion for music became evident from a young age. He discovered a whole world of new sounds and DJ’s which inspired him and fed his desire in music. Tech House and techno are two genres he feels most comfortable in and since 2015 he has seen release on labels such as Sousa Label and Shaman Records. A rising talent with lots to offer, hopefully we’ll be seeing more soon but for now enjoy this solid cut.
Klaus Benedek marks his Piston Recordings debut with the impressive Never Get Out EP. Klaus grew up in a small town near Vienna. His interest in electronic music began during the 90’s techno hype. He spent hours watching video clips on MTV and viva, gaining knowledge about electronic music. In 2004, he began teaching himself to produce. Gathering his inspiration wherever he could, he began collecting 12″ vinyl records the same year and 2 years later got his first DJ gigs. From 2008 till 2010 he was one of the resident DJ’s at the MNML Thursdays in the Camera Club. In 2012 he started, along with Alex Kolodziej, the event series Tellerbetrieb. Currently he finds most of his inspiration in Chicago House, Deep House, Disco and Breakbeat. After releases on labels like Petrol Dollar, Subversaal, Rekooda, Soul Shift Music, Clean and Dirty Recordings and Tanzbar, Klaus launched his own label ForTunea in 2014.
Mr. Operator sets out with a nice punchy kick drum and accompanying percussions that set the rhythm off. Classic style bass synths get the asses shaking as warm chords come through. A dirtier more prominent bassline takes over that will definitely translate well on the floors. A well rounded and perfectly executed house music arrangement that will be a welcome addition in any set.
Let The Music Ride intros with a classic house set up complete with pumping kick drum and slicing hi hats. Rhythmic percussions form up alongside a slow moving bassline that fills out the low end perfectly. Cool vocals litter the sound adding character and keeping the house vibe alive. Raucous fills with rolling snares and FX add strong dynamics to the sound while on the break the vocals take centre stage before those snappy snares take us back into full on mode for the duration. Top notch stuff.
