Debut appearance on Piston for Blackpool, UK based DJ and producer Oli Frances with his superb Slow Mo, which also comes backed up with a top class remix from Alvaro Martins. This relatively young artist is proving to be a person of interest due to his great knowledge and love of house music. At 23 years old he has already got the attention of many in the industry having played at top nights such as Sub Sono, Edit and Kaluki in venues like Sankey’s, Bar 137 and Warehouse. On the production front he is making waves on various labels with his raw style and driving house grooves. Great to have him on board here at Piston and we hope to see more in the months ahead.
First up we have the Original Mix which intros with a cool punchy kick and sharp hat combi with a teasing bass lurking in the rear. The bass comes to the fore with its amazing analog prowess and brings with it a warm flowing house groove. Offset keys provide a cool contrast to the lower frequencies that playfully dance their way through the groove. Throughout the track we get a very cool 90’s flavour that just oozes out of the piano riffs. A very tight and solid slice of house which is a definite must have.
On remix duty we have Porto based producer Alvaro Martins. Alvaro grew up with a love for 80’s and 90’s Pop and Rock sounds which soon developed into a passion for Classic Soul and Funk. At 8 years old he joined a music school and learned classic piano which gave him a deeper insight into how music evolves. Nowadays his early influences have proved useful in his outstanding production style. He has released a plethora of top quality House cuts across many labels and he also joins forces with his friend to form Peers & Upright with releases on Something Else and Save Room Recordings. On the remix we get a bass heavy intro that reverberates beautifully through the sounds system with sharp, crispy hats cutting through the low end. Very smooth house keys make their way into the sound with groovy riff that leads us into a raw analog groove. On the break the 90’s flavour pours out in the form of classic piano stabs as cool vocals pop up all around. A fantastic contrast between the old skool style and modern deep house grooves, top notch stuff.
