French DJ and producer Vincent Esperanza makes his Piston Recordings debut with the wonderful four track Night Fever EP. Growing up in his native Paris, Vincent found House music around 2001 while partying in the French capital. Richie Hawtin, Josh Wink and Steve Bug are just some of the artists who have influenced him over the years. In 2007 he started producing and saw releases on labels like Look Ahead Records and Zikomatik. He likes to infuse warm tones and techno edges into his sound, just what we like to hear.
First up is When You Fly which intros with sharp edged percussions that lead into a punchy kick and crispy hat combo. The groove gets down and dirty with a brilliant deep bass that saunters through the sound with a suave laziness. A raspy male vocal comes in gives a surreal trippy vibe with the help of some very cool synths. Definitely one for the late night parties.
Walking Dead sets off with a sinister tone right from the outset as a chunky kick is met with deep scraping sounds. A contrastingly warm bass comes through and creates a cool textured layer while shuffling hats provide a solid rhythm alongside a tight drum arrangement. The groove settles in for the long haul as a biographical spoken vocal winds its way through to the backdrop of cool metallic effects. Deep and dark grooves that will keep the floors moving into the early hours.
Get Down intros with a cool percussion arrangement over a subdued kick. An infinitely deep bass crashes in that will definitely give the woofers a run for their money. Cool vocals litter the groove as that bass dominates all the way through the sound. Tight drums ensure the rhythms keep moving as a hypnotic vibe is forced through your ears locking you right in, this one will no doubt get a few heads turning.
Rounding up this stunning EP we have Something Special with its rhythmic intro filled with punchy kicks, sharp claps and a cool tribal ridden slapped drum pattern. Spacey effects streak through the sound as a dancing bass gets the groove into full flow. Deep house vibes get a showing from the groovy keys on offer as a spoken vocal pops up throughout. The break unleashes a wall of sound that is broken up by those warm keys before we get slammed right back into the main track for the duration. Top notch stuff that will get the imagination working overtime.
