Tom Wax and Dam Hillson join forces once again as they return to Bonzai Progressive with the fantastic I Believe I Can which follows hot on the heels of their impressive double act debut single, Don’t Stop. Tom has always been a leading figure in the electronic music scene in Germany since 1988, he has also inspired a lot of DJ’s and producers around the world with his unique sound. After more than 25 years behind the DJ booth he is still on a mission as he releases tracks on labels such as Great Stuff, Toolroom, CR2, Bitten, Bush, Suara, Armada Deep, Toca 45 and Phuture Wax. At the height of the European techno and trance era, Tom was responsible for a vast number of classics under his Arpeggiators, Microbots and DJ Tom & Norman guises. His tracks found their home on R&S, Harthouse and Overdrive Records. He partnered with Thorsten Adler on AWeX and found international fame with It’s Our Future on Plastic City. Dan Hillson aka Hillson is a relative newcomer on the scene. He has several releases over the last few years on quality labels and his unique sound is something that is grabbing attention. Hopefully we will hear much more from him in the future. Always an exciting time when these two get behind the mixing desk.
The Original Mix intros with a solid punchy kick drum and deep offset bass combi. Shuffling hats deliver a steady rhythmic flow assisted by a series of tight percussive elements. Striking synth plucks raise the energy levels as a snare roll takes us to the main hook where we find a superb melodic arpeggio. Cool, grizzly vocals dish out a classic style narrative as the synth hook intensifies. On the break we find hair-raising note changes alongside a pitching synth before the tough beats return for the duration. A peak time monster track that will not disappoint.
We also have a Dub Mix which strips out the vocals leaving behind a focus on the melodies. Still highly effective and still a proper peak time tune.
The main highlights of the track are condensed into the Radio Mix which manages to deliver the same energetic experience in almost half the time.
