Bonzai Elemental EM2015134 23 February, 2015

ravenherz aka Otto Ravenherz returns to Elemental with a blissful trek into chilldom with Host. This young Russian producer debuted at the start of 2014 with Safe Place which has since went on to feature on numerous compilations. In his earlier years he was inspired by the Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, The Beatles, AC/DC and Metallica. At the age of +5, he was watching live performances on VHS again and again and decided to become a Rock Star, but his parents always told him that being a musician isn’t a stable way of life. Later, against the odds, he attended music school and found a passion for electronica as well as studying forensic science. Currently he enjoys dabbling with a wide range of music styles of which the results are outstanding. We hope to see much more from this guy in the future.

The Original Mix of Host intros with a beautiful melancholic sequence as deep bass notes lurk in the background. The track bursts into life with an unexpected Drum and Bass rhythm section complete with crispy hats and syncopated kicks underneath a superbly arranged snare. Above the melancholy a much sweeter, melodic flavour can be found among the sweeping pads and the smoothly plucked electric guitar. Perfect fodder for a warm evening by the fire.

Anin Velik steps in for remix duty on Host and delivers a superb cut in the process. The intro glitches into existence with a distorted rising synth and hypnotic low frequency. Beautifully modulated keys fade through as analog sounds sweep past giving off a space age feel. The melancholy seeps into the sound beautifully and is contrasted by some wonderful guitar melodies before the track completely transforms into a tough and edgy slow grooved monster. Big chunky kicks and deep droning basses dominate and then dissipate leaving behind a raw, electrified groove. A track with many faces and interesting twists make this a truly sublime experience.
