Folies d’Antan

Green Martian GM2015242 16 March, 2015

Kindred Spirits return to Green Martian with the superb Folies d’Antan which comes with a fantastic remix from Edwin van Cleef. Their last outing saw a remix on Dofamine’s Zero which turned a few heads at the start of 2015.

The Original Mix intros with smooth kick and raspy hat combo as warm chords fill in the background. Cool synths come through providing a sharp, slicing element alongside a groovy lead riff that captivates with its subtle melodies. Sweeping strings cascade through the sound and bring a nice uplifting vibe as a probing bassline finds its way into the sound. On the break the strings and pads combine beautifully to deliver a cinematic styled sequence that really gets your imagination going before we get back into the solid progressive house groove once again. A wonderful slice that will no doubt be a feature in many sets.

UK producer Edwin van Cleef debuts on Green Martian with his stunning remix. Edwin is a purveyor of cosmic, driving grooves and in the past he has remixed for the likes of Chilly Gonzales, Shinichi Osawa, The Knocks and Metronomy. His own tracks have gained huge support from Alex Metric and Starsmith and receiving airplay on BBC Radio 1 and Ego FM. This remix comes after Edwin took a short break, but stay tuned as he plans on a bumper 2015. The remix intros with a nice chunky kick as smooth house chords are met with sweeping pads. Sharp, crispy hats and claps get the rhythm on the move as the layers build. Expertly crafted FX fill the spectrum and create a wonderfully spacious atmosphere. The deep penetrating bass line cuts through the brightness of the track and brings a strong, contrasting deep groove to the sound. The lead synths bring a subtle melodic flavour and on the break we get locked into that melodic flow as the synths, pads and subtle arps wash over your senses. The track kicks back into its solid progressive groove for the duration making this a definite must have track in your collection.
