Cuz I’m Killin

Piston Recordings PR2014137 1 December, 2014

It’s been just over a year since we last saw Carlo at Piston HQ, we’re delighted to have him back with his latest offering Cuz I’m Killing which comes with no less than four top notch remixes from Rogerio Martins, Marcus Raute, JR From Dallas and Iban Montoro & Jazzman Wax.

First up we have the Original Mix which intros with a nice and smooth kick and hat combo. Cool percussions form up providing a flowing rhythm which takes us to the main feature on this track, the bassline. The bass sits perfectly as it meanders through the sound giving off a head nodding rhythmic vibe as cool vocals scatter throughout. A very cool slice of house that will be a welcome addition in many sets.

DJ, producer and Piston founder Rogerio Martins is first up on remix duty. As ever Rogerio spends most of his time managing the label as well as many other things including Piston Recordings radio show. His last outing Gonna Be Mine saw great support and was licensed for the Enter Ibiza 2014 compilation, featured in Apollonia’s Terrace Mix. The remix intros with a punchy kick and a vocal sample on the offset as bright and crispy hats follow. The star of the show begins to emerge in the shape of spicy chords that filter in and out beautifully. A deep subtle bassline sits back allowing those chords to shine while on the break smooth pads rise up and give off that true deep house vibe. Top notch stuff you will not want to miss.

Next up we have the Marcus Raute Re-pitched Mix. Back in the summer of this year we saw Marcus’ Samplin’ Memories EP which was very well received indeed and since then he also got a showing on the Deep Worx 9 compilation. No doubt we are in for another treat with this remix. The intro sets off with a very cool percussion arrangement filled with crispy hats, sharp claps and snappy snares to the backdrop of a chunky kick. A deep-rooted bass soon bursts through and dominates the sound with its throbbing groove as percussive layers continue to build throughout. Superb stuff yet again from Marcus and definitely one for the floors.

JR From Dallas delivers his superb Raw Mix and gets the deep house vibes flowing with a super tight cut. It’s been a while since JR has been around these shores but we know that when he does reappear we can expect something special. The intro boasts a cool percussive driven arrangement that continues to build bringing a smooth rhythmic vibe. A short break reveals cool vocals and leads into a wonderful strolling bassline that will get asses shakin in no time. A relentless groove ensues as your senses are raided by the tight drum and percussion patterns making this a definite must for those bouncy house parties.

Rounding off this superb release we have the Iban Montoro & Jazzman Wax Re-vocal Mix. The guys are no strangers to Piston and tracks like this are the reason. Summer of this year saw their track Let It gain lots of support from many quarters. We hope to see more from this duo in the future. The remix sets off with a cool punchy kick as the percussive elements build getting the rhythm flowing. A deep throbbing bass complete with the most fantastic tail end warms the track beautifully as the vocals begin to come through. The break is filled with various vocal samples and FX with the percussions keeping the vibe alive before we get right back into the main groove. Top notch stuff not to be missed.
