Bad Timing

Armenian DJ and producer Hovhannes Darbinyan aka Darbinyan makes the jump from one of our affiliate labels, Monog Records, to Bonzai Progressive with the wonderful Bad Timing. He has been passionate about music from a young age and in 2006 he started to produce his own sounds. House and Techno were his main styles and his first release was a remix on Chymera’s The Fathoms, released on Connaisseur Recordings. Several other releases followed on labels like Unknown Season, Muller Records, Prismat Recordings, Loup Blanc and Blossom Kollektiv Recordings. His tracks have gained support from many jocks around the world including Kevin Yost, Kaito, Chymera, Nicole Moudaber, Tensnake, Of Norway, Ame, Ian O’Donovan, Mije Van Dijk, Anthony Pappa, Jimmy Van M and more. Great to have him on board at BP.

Bad Timing dishes out a dark progressive vibe, thanks to a rumbling, deep bassline and mesmeric melodies. Classic style chord stabs add that nostalgic touch as whispered vocals sweep through the groove. Finely tuned percussions slice through the lower frequencies while a punchy kick drum drives the groove. The perfect fodder for the late-night set that will not disappoint.

The Overthinking Mix is a superb interpretation on the original, delivering a much more dynamic and though provoking groove with a haunting vox and cut up vocals. A solid drum arrangement, complete with shuffling percussions and thumpy kicks, powers the track while deep, plucky basses lock us into the groove. Emotive note changes on the bass enhance the melodic structure of the track with layered synths creating a wide, spacious atmosphere alongside subtle 303 lines. A must have, no doubt.

Rename sets out with a nice chunky kick and melodic notes which are soon joined by classic chord stabs. A deep, dominating bass comes through to take control as the chord stabs settles into a hypnotic sequence. Crispy hats and sharp claps dish out rhythmic patterns as exotic percussions emerge. The bass meanders through the groove effortlessly and is joined deep saxophones as well spacey pads and plucky synths that inject a melodic vein into the darker sound. Topo-notch stuff that is not to be missed.
