Bonzai Progressive BP4422015 20 April, 2015

Phi Phi and Roddy Reynaert join forces again to bring us the superb three tracker Atlan. They teamed up in 2014 for Platinum on Infonika Recordings to a great reception. Phi Phi is no stranger to these shores, he’s been cutting tracks under Bonzai’s umbrella for many years alongside the likes of Philip Van Mullem, Airwave, Greg D, Yves Deruyter and M.I.K.E.. In recent years he got into the studio with Airwave with jaw dropping results. French DJ and producer Roddy makes his Bonzai debut, although he has been around the scene for a while. He has tracks released on Anjunabeats, Fuzzy Recordings, Intricate Records and Ifonika Recordings. He is definitely making waves with his style and he was snapped up for remix duty on DedRekoning feat Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s Only Child on Perfecto Records.

Atlan delivers a solid progressive groover with tight beats and a cool rolling bassline. The track builds steadily and keeps you locked in as various layers are revealed. An intensity comes through on the synths which are backed up by some rising pads real cool vocal FX. On the break a plucky arp takes over as those rich strings add to the melodies before the track reaches climax and we are thrust back into the main groove. Top notch stuff that will not disappoint.

Believe intros with a nice punchy kick alongside a cool drum pattern and crispy hats and soon descends into a deep grooving progressive monster with a dose of gritty sounds, winding synths and an aggressive bassline that dominates throughout. Cool voices sweep around and contrasts beautifully with the deeper elements and bright melodic arps. A real solid slice of prog here that is a definite must have track.

Mayhem is an obsessive in your face 4×4 track that delivers a solid punch with its no-nonsense kicks and filtered percussions. The bass is where it’s at here, deep rooted pulsating notes are drawn up form below and really take command of the sound. A tribalistic vibe comes through with the wonderful drum arrangement and tight patterns. This one is a must for those late night sessions, not to be missed.
