We welcome Barcelona based artist John Dare back to Bonzai Progressive with the superb, Goa Pro EP. It’s been a while since we last had John here, his last effort – El Mallahah, proved popular among many thanks to its hybrid design. Better known as Ricard Pastor, he started his electronic music career in 1995. Throughout the years he has nurtured his own style, sometimes merging genres and always delivering solid results. His back catalogue is hugely impressive and is ever-growing which is a testament to the talent this guy has.
First up, we have the Original Mix of Goa Pro which is a dark and mysterious, chugging progressive mover. A solid, muscular groove with smooth, pulsing rhythms, the track takes us deep into the abyss. Laced with striking vocals and a psy edge, this one is not to be missed. The Remix of Goa Pro is up next, ramping up the energy levels with a lean towards psy thanks to that powerful, driving bassline. Hair-raising vocals and dark tones blend effortlessly making this a must have. Next, we have the Original Mix of Crazy Astronaut, offering up a wonderfully deep progressive groover. Dark and moody, the track is built on a bed of punchy drums and exotic percussions. Gritty, reprocessed vocals are joined by gnarly basses, sweeping FX and impactful synths as delicate arps are weaved into the construction, perfect fodder for late-night sessions. Rounding out the release we the Remix of Crazy Astronaut. Right from the off, the track exudes a sense of euphoria as an early build up takes us to the driving bassline which is accompanied by solid beats and cool vocals. The break displays a masterclass in vocal manipulation, with clever cut-ups and quality FX enhancing the vibe. Amidst the dark tones, soft melodies come through, creating stark contrasts. Top-notch stuff once again.
