Gabriel and Ricardo return to Bonzai Progressive with another sublime slice featuring two original tracks and accompanied by two solid remixes. The guys have settled in extremely well here at Bonzai with multiple quality releases to show for their efforts. Their last effort – Miocen, was followed by several appearances on compilations as well as top notch remixes for other artists including Matan Caspi and Doriaan. They have been working together now for a few of years now and they’ve racked up quite an impressive release count on many top labels including Electrified Mindz, Krata, Dlimited, Egothermia, Zero and many more. They also enjoy DJing at various venues where they dish out their own brand of deep prog and infectious techno. They also branch out on solo runs from time to time, both have seen releases on various other labels. A highly talented pairing no doubt, we always look forward to new material from these two.
The Original Mix of Tonic is yet another fine example of the quality this duo churns out. Right from the get go we’re lured into the progressive goodness on offer as a deep groove is etched out. Deep rolling basses line up against tribal chants and beautifully crafted FX. On the break we enter a sublime sequence filled with warming tones alongside a subtle acid laced pattern. Smooth melodies find their way out of the deeper elements creating a contrasting sound rich in dynamics and a must have track in your collection.
Manu Riga delivers his superb Dark Soul remix of Tonic, and once again we get to hear his beautifully crafted sounds weave a deep progressive melodic tech vibe. A hugely respected artist on the scene, Belgian Adriaan Baussens has gone through somewhat of a transformation in style while retaining his meticulous attention to detail. His last outing here – Fires In The Sky performed very well having featured on Beatport as well as showing up on countless playlists and charts. Manu continues to delight with his tight DJ sets on his Escape show on Progressive Beats where he also has a hand in hosting events and lining up new DJ’s. We love his new direction into deep progressive tech and no doubt we’ll be hearing more soon. Here on the remix we’re in for a solid ride deep into progressive tech. Nice and chunky kick drums lead the way as dark bubbling basses lurk in the low end. Tribal chants litter the sound as haunting pads fade in creating a wonderfully rich atmosphere. The layered basslines power the groove effortlessly, keeping us rooted to the dancefloor. The darker elements of the groove dominate the break where a sinister lead comes in briefly before we head back to full on mode. A fantastic slice that will not disappoint.
Next up we have the Original Mix of Expedition which, given the apt title, takes us on a journey deep into progressive. A minimal approach is taken with chunky kicks and shuffling percussions leading the way. Darkly sinister voices are scattered throughout the track adding atmosphere and intrigue. The main power synth lead dominates with electrifying force and gives the track an epic vibe that will resonate on the floors no doubt.
Techno wizard Ben Knoxx joins Bonzai Progressive with an impressive remix on Expedition. Ben Knoxx is the alias of well known club DJ and producer. He has chosen to keep his real identity a secret for now to avoid confusion with his more public persona playing different styles. Glad to have him on board. Check out his TechKnoxx shows on Mixcloud and his Facebook for previews of upcoming tracks. On the remix here the intro delivers an industrial techno kinda vibe. Subtle kick drums are joined by a didgeridoo style sound before the kicks are transformed into pounding monsters. The groove intensifies as the track takes on a more powerful techno vibe thanks to multi layered sounds and a scathing synth. Hypnotic and infectious, this one will definitely give the party crowd something to move to.
