Alan Castro is back at Monog with Bata EP. Alan’s last outing for us was on remix duty for Kruno Kereta’s Disquiet and before that it was a while since we seen him around these shores. Delighted to see another fine release from this guy and hope to see much more.

First up we have the title track Bata and right from the off we are lured into the deep grooves on offer with a superb kick and subtle percussion arrangement to the backdrop of a musical bass that locks you in for the ride. The grooves build slowly and tease us before we get to the break where some very smooth chords give you a little respite and then back into full swing. Cool vocal samples and FX splatter across the sound keeping your interest and adding many textures. A real nice and smooth cut that will not disappoint.

Dad0s sets off with a real deep groovy vibe as pulsing basses are joined by muted percussions that slowly weave a smooth rhythmic flow. Darker elements creep through in the shape of a mysterious echoed bell sound, which also adds a dramatic effect. Wonderfully positioned FX keep the ears trained as the groove unfolds taking us deeper. A strange yet very appealing sound that will draw the attention of many for sure.
