Our next Bonzai Basiks release comes from Majed and Van Czar with their three tracker, In Vino EP. Van is such a consistently great and talented artist as his productions will testify, recently his Black Diamond EP hit the ground running and was well received among many. It’s always an exciting time when Van’s latest offering hits the office and this is no exception. Van is joined by DJ and producer Majed who is making his debut appearance on Basiks. Majed has been around the scene for a long time having started out perfecting his art at just 12 years old. He has much respect in the electronic music world and has been a regular jock at many top events. In 2011 he started his own label, LíEcurie Electro where he could bring together like minded producers he had already been working with. With a ton of releases across various labels you can rest assured you will see much more from this guy.
In Vino intros with a hollowed kick and shuffling percussions as a spoken vocal narrates. The track is amped up by a surging deep bass that dominates the sound as the kicks transform into nice chunky hits. The vocal returns on each break as various synths and FX merge to create a very cool dynamic on the track. Straight into the heart of techno this is a definite must for those deep sets.
The Original Mix of Euro3 is up next with its cool percussive intro that transforms into a throbbing techno groove filled with punchy kicks and a sublime deep bass. The drum arrangements weave out a rhythmic pattern to the backdrop of some awesome rising and falling FX creating wonderful textures right through the sound. Top notch stuff that will work well in experimental sets for sure.
Van delivers his Revolution Remix of Euro3, a truly deep rooted techno experience from start to finish. Big chunky kicks fill the intro as the percussion elements build a solid rhythmic platform. The bass comes from the depths as it resonates through shuddering the bins into submission. Surreal synths reveal a sinister theme to the track and on the break a hypnotic vocal sample joins in before we are thrust back into the main groove. Stunning cut yet again from Van and not to be missed.

Onofrio is back to Basiks with his ‘Underground People EP’ which comes backed with two fantastic remixes. This guy goes round the houses as he has seen tracks appear on our Eyepatch and Sounds R Us labels. His last Basiks outing was way back in 2013 with ‘Red Lights EP’ and since then he has continued to deliver the goods.
The Original Mix intros with full on Techno flavours in mind. A deep rolling bass and punchy kick set the scene for a relentless ride. Percussions build their way in with crispy hats and some great snares and claps that set off a cool rhythm. The vocal sample is heavily effected with superb results and adds character to this minimal sound, particularly on the break. Cool bouncy rhythms that will have any floor moving in no time.
Van Czar is up next with his Ibiza Remix. Van continues to inspire as he pours his soul into each production and remix he does. His latest outing ‘Black Diamond’ on Bonzai Basiks is shaping up to be another of his master strokes. We know he travelled to Ibiza recently and no doubt he will have gotten the inspiration for this remix there. A percussive led intro takes us smoothly into a techno groove with nicely padded kicks and a pulsating bass. Rhythmic patterns evolve beautifully with the addition of subtle percs here and there. Sublime rising pads take the focus and blend well with the tech grooves before leading into the break where a faultless sequence takes place filled with powerful vox and swirling pads. The tracks kicks back in and we are locked on for the duration, another fine slice form Van the man!
Next up is Cysxe with his Dark Room Remix. Cysxe is the moniker of Van Czar and is an outlet for the tougher edged techno he likes to delve into. Cysxe has seen releases on labels like NXT Recordings, Eyepatch Recordings and more over the last year or so and first came to prominence with a remix of Van’s Bonzai debut ‘Bouge’. The remix intros with an energetic feel as phat kicks are paired with a chest pounding offset bass that really sets the track on fire. Cool background FX adds texture to the sound and a hypnotic single synth note really brings out the tougher edged techno vibe. A monster of a tune that gives off a retro feel and will no doubt be a popular choice among many!
Van Czar returns to Basiks with his wonderful ‘Black Diamond EP’ which comes with two fantastic remixes as well as the Original. Van’s last outing ‘African Roots’ saw him collaborate with a myriad of top artists which gained a lot of support from all quarters. As usual Van continues to keep the wheels turning with DJing, radio and producing taking a lot of his time. No doubt we will be seeing much more from this Spanish based Belgian.
First up we get into the Original Mix which intros with a superb jungle theme and a tense rising pad. Very cool percussions form up and create a tight rhythmic groove as chunky kicks come into play giving off a cool tribal vibe. The break offers up those surreal pads to the backdrop of jungle sounds which work so well together. Brilliant percussion led track that will be a welcome addition to those deeper techno sets.
Popular remixer Onofrio Conte steps up to the controls with a brilliant display of his skills. The intro gets us moving with beautifully released kicks and contrast well with sharp hats and a tight percussion arrangement. Lush deep chords play through the sound and build a tense picture as the track evolves. A truly infectious groove is the result and will sit well in any playlist, top notch stuff!
German DJ and producer Eric Kanzler delivers his Dirty Remix and injects his brand of techno in style. The intro sets us up for a brilliant display of percussions as many sounds converge and mould into a great big dirty ride through techno. Perfectly tuned beats and a very subtle and simple bass are the backbone to an array of drums that blend beautifully. Expertly crafted and a lot of fun, this is not to be missed.
We last saw Van on Eyepatch way back in mid 2013 with his ‘Mon Reve EP’. Since then he has released many other works on Bonzai Basiks as well as hosting Bonzai Basik Beat Spain and DJing regularly in Madrid. This time around we have ‘Jean Tonique’ which comes with three stunning remixes.
First up is the Original Mix, the intro eases in with subtle hats and a distant pad that leads to a cool kick. The percussions form up creating a smooth rhythmic vibe and takes us deep into the sound with a brilliant, surreal continuous chord dominating throughout. A super low sub bass reverberates through the sound providing a solid footing as a brilliantly tweaked vocal sample plays through. Superb deep grooves from Van which will be a popular choice no doubt.
Belgian legend Eric Powa B steps up to remix duties with his Deep n Dark Reconstruction Mix. Right from the off we are thrust into Eric’s deep tech world with a super cool kick and deep pulsating bass combo. One thing that stands out here is the precision in the percussion arrangement, tight patterns and classic sounds give off a brilliant vibe with a superb vocal sample that adds character to the track. The break gives up a smooth chord with sharp brass stabs before getting back into the groove with some classic toms. Very classy sound that will do well in any set.
Ittai Barkai ramps things up a gear with his remix. Classic intro with chunky kicks and crispy hats alongside cool rhythmic bongos. A very smooth vocal sample leads nicely into a lush chord as a brilliant offset bass drops in. A truly infectious groove ensues as you get locked into this sound helped along by those cool vocal samples and lush chords. Superb stuff from Ittai and definitely not to be missed.
Lastly in this pack we have Darouge on the remix. Darouge’s last outing ‘Bite The Curb’ saw much support and features on top download sites. The remix intros with a cool kick and hat combo which sets up the track nicely. The bass teases its way in as it hits every other bar before going into full on mode with its gritty edge. Cool vocal samples are met with smooth synth plucks that lead us into a percussion driven break before that bass takes charge once more. Great stuff yet again and a must have track in any playlist.
7th installment in the Pure Tech series, this time with original tracks and remixes by Van Czar, Kini Rao, Charles Ramirez, Moll, Jamez, Jimmy Galle, Sa.Du, Cele, Ozan Kanik, Enrico Caruso, Ozgur Uzar, Jonathan Calvo, Andy Slate, Zolex, Alessan Main, Kevh Ripple, Eric Kanzler, Ed Whitty, The Electric 10, Diego Herrera, Onofrio Conte, Tribal Warriors, Oz Romita, Roderick Fox, HP Vince, John Manning, Redhead, Franky Jones and NaaN.
Belgian DJ and producer Van Czar delves into his ancestry and discovers his own African roots. Van has an ability to deliver quality productions every time, from Techno to House, he always puts his soul into his sound. Drums and percussions are big elements in his sound and with his ancestry we can see how he is able to tap into this and create purely soulful, outstanding rhythmic structures. Here we see Van recruit a few of his friends to contribute to the wonderful ‘African Roots’. Nine tracks filled with all the goodness of house and techno and burgeoning with tribal driven grooves.
Top Belgian DJ and producer Eric Powa B gets us going with ‘Supafly’. The intro boasts a penetrating tribal rhythm with some well constructed drum patterns. Nice and crisp hats sit over a cool chunky kick while some vocal samples add texture. The bass is the big hitter here as it pulsates through the groove keeping you locked in. On the break we get some awesome tribal chants which gives the track character, superb stuff from Eric and a wonderful start to this project.
Van is joined by New York based South African DJ and producer Brendon Moeller aka Echologist on the title track ‘African Roots’. Brendon has been around recording studios for a long time with a very respectful list of releases to his name and under various guises. The track takes on a tribal vibe right from the off as a myriad of drums weave out intricate patterns resulting in smooth rhythms. Nice crisp hats accompany a full kick giving the track a techno edge. Vocal samples ebb and flow in the track and add to the tribal textures. The break gives off a sweet string sequence adding a cool contrast to the sound. The track powers on and releases an acid line late on which further enhances the sound, wonderful stuff!
Next up we have Surasela with ‘Southern Attraction’. Cool percussion led intro which shapes up into a fine flowing rhythm. Chunky kicks and brilliant hats come through alongside some really cool deep chanting vocals. Simple synth notes add a beautiful texture to the sound and marry well with driving nature of the groove, top notch!
Darouge is up next with ‘Around The Corner’. Darouge was first introduced to electronica through listening to top trance and progressive jocks and as time went on his musical preferences changed. After attending many different styled parties he began to settle on house music with minimal tech and techno being his main focus. His last outing through Bonzai was his ‘Displacement EP’ on Eyepatch. Here he keeps with main theme behind the album and focuses on tribal rhythms with outstanding results. Expertly crafted drum and percussion patterns form up into driving rhythms with vocal samples thrown in. A truly deep throbbing bass shores up the grooves while on the break we get treated to a beautifully tweaked, hat, drum and vocal workout which builds back up to full on techno delight.
Van’s ‘Tobassi’ is next, the track intros with a slowly fading in beat accompanied with sharp slappy drums and cool hats. Powerful kicks give off a classic techno vibe and the drums intensify building to a sublime tribal rhythm. The break brings in surreal African chants which blend perfectly with the beats. Van has gone down the full on tribal route here and what a brilliant job he has made of it, simply stunning!
Swiss producer Mark Kavas and relative newcomer Peter Storm deliver a stunning tech fuelled slice with ‘Fennec’. Right from the off the track takes a cool tech edge with phat kicks and well balanced hats building the platform for a superb ride through the deeper side of tech house. Fantastic carnival-esque drums pop up and are the perfect companion for the gritty bass that dominates the sound. Sweeping FX make a show alongside cool and subtle synth work. Great track from these guys and a must for those deeper sets.
Mexican DJ and producer Ritch Mollen gives the vocal fuelled ‘Togo’. Ritch made his Bonzai debut with ‘Enough Of Disco’ at the start of 2013. He delivers the goods yet again with this electro-tech monster. On the intro we get a classic kick and hat combination which leads into a very cool male vocal which is a big attraction on the track. A tough bass soon follows taking much of the focus as it powers through the sound. Superb electro snares bring in each section with great effect and gives the track a surreal diversity, top stuff!
Van and Brendon Moeller aka Echologist give us a Dub Mix of ‘African Roots’ which is a full on jaunt through the deeper side of techno with tribal elements. Very dark atmospheres are created with dull thudding drums and beautifully crafted bassline that dominates the sound. Vocal samples give a hypnotic vibe and really set the track off. A hell of a ride this one and sure to be a big feature in many sets.
Spanish, veteran DJ and producer Mauro Nakimi delivers his track ‘Black Cube’. Mauro has been active on the scene since 1991 when he was big into the jungle, breakbeat, hardcore scenes. He became a regular feature around London playing at all the big clubs and in the mid nineties he began to write his own music. This resulted in numerous releases across many top labels. Today he sticks mainly to Techno as evident within this superb track. Big chunky kicks and percussions get us going along with the odd vocal sample. The percussion are very well arranged giving off smooth flowing rhythms as a deep rooted bass brings up the rear. As the track evolves many different elements combine giving a Techno flavour, on the break this is magnified with a brilliant deep bass arp that teases throughout the rest of the track. An epic ride that is not to be missed!

The highly impressive Van is back to Basiks with his superb three track EP entitled “Mar Menor”. Van, as usual remains a very busy producer and DJ with many remixes and original productions always on the go. His radio show, Bonzai Basik Beats Spain is going strong with many top artists performing and with many more to come. Based in Madrid, Van is a big part of the techno and deep house scene and recently his track “Vapeur Tardive” was showcased in a mix broadcast live on the UK’s 6 Mix show by none other than the legendary Derrick May!
“Mar Menor” sets us off on this EP and the groove begins to flow from early on as the kicks and percussions gel together beautifully alongside a superb deep and chunky bass. The percussion arrangement leads to a solid rhythm with lots of fills keeping the vibe flowing. The break provides some very cool synth chords that really sets the track alight, superb stuff from Van and a track that is sure to feature on many sets!
“Arena Blanca” is up next and delivers a sharp edged groove with a cool techy vibe. Big chunky kicks take over the track from the off with a round of tight percussions blending nicely. A deep resonating bass weaves through the track as a strangely hypnotic synth comes forth. Very cool driving rhythms on this and a must for any box!
“OMG” dishes out some very cool kicks and crisp hats on the intro with more percussions building as the track progresses. The break is a masterclass in arrangement as rolling drums ebb and flow before kicking back. Strong grooves and solid rhythms burst through as a distant bass teases throughout. Wonderfully crafted track that would be a welcome addition for any DJ.
