DADDY – ACCELERATOR (BONZAI PROGRESSIVE)

[soundcloud id='125409828']

Koen Mertens aka Daddy makes an appearance on BP with “Accelerator” which comes backed up with a superb remix. Koen’s last release on Eyepatch was well received and no doubt this release will see support from all over.

The Original Mix gets us moving straight into a tech fuelled progressive groove as the intro blasts out some fine chunky kicks and tech styled percussions. A simple vocal sample adds cool textures to the sound before a deep synth riff starts to build. The bassline sets the track on fire as it churns out hypnotic rhythms. The bassline continues through the break transforming many times alongside some amazing FX work before coming right back into a full on monster tune!

Tribal Warriors is busy as always and yet again we see a side of M.I.K.E. where he gets right into the nitty gritty realm of tech on his remix. The track intros with a vocal sample and minimal percussion, out of nowhere a stunning kick blasts through as the rhythms begin to form through some tight percussions before breaking down into a fantastic French-kiss-esque bassline. The bassline relentlessly powers on drawing you in to its hypnotic rhythm while rising pads sweep through. Superbly worked track that will be a feature in many sets for sure, one to watch!

TRIBAL WARRIORS – NEW YORK TO IBIZA (BONZAI BASIKS)

[soundcloud id='119592775']

Already we have another release from the recently revamped Tribal Warriors aka M.I.K.E., with New York To Ibiza”. His last outing on Basiks “08” had a great reaction and now we are back for more with this one which also comes with no less than four stunning remixes.

The Original Mix is a full on tech fest, a percussive intro with a huge chunky kick drops us into a superb synth driven riff. Blasting into the main track we are greeted with a throbbing bass that forces those feet to dance as the rhythm takes over. Great manipulation on the vocal samples adds texture to the sound, top stuff and a must for those late night techno parties.

Petro Chatzopoulos aka Petri Petro steps up with the first of two remixes, Petri is back fresh after his first stint on Basiks with the “Revival EP”. His Left Pace remix takes the tech sound to new heights as the sounds combine beautifully to form a tech stomper. The big focus throughout the track is the synth work as it weaves its magic and hooks you in. The huge bass reverberates and is complimented well with the kicks and rhythmic percussions, great stuff.

Petri’s next mix on this release is his Right Pace remix, a much more chunky affair with a deeper bass that packs a huge punch and will give any sub woofer a run for its money. The percussive elements form a solid rhythm as the track meanders at a steady pace, top notch stuff!

Onofrio Conte is back after his “Endless Love EP” gained support from many jocks around the world, here he serves up his 909 Remix and delivers a track filled with all the gusto of techno. Superb arrangements on the drums and percussion carve out smooth rhythms while the bass sits back menacingly waiting to pounce. Such a well rounded groove and a definite must on playlists all over.

Lastly we have Rion Oidua on remix with a fantastic pumping sound. The intro sets the track up nicely with a cool tribal feel from the percussions, the kicks soon arrive and pack a good thump. When the bass kicks the track gets a huge lift with all the elements coming together beautifully. Superb synth FX sweep in and out of the sound solidifying the groove, brilliant effort and one to watch for sure.

MINDGAMERS – CAPRIOSKA (BONZAI PROGRESSIVE)

[soundcloud id='113478271']

Zas & Sanze are back with their latest works “Caprioska” which is backed up with two stomping remixes. The Tallinn based dynamic duo continue to churn out quality vibes and they now have a very impressive back catalogue consisting of original material and a ton of remixes.

The Original Mix sets us off with a superbly worked prog groove with tech influences. Beefy kicks and sharp hats provide a steady rhythm accompanied by cool house stabs. The bassline throbs through the track and adds extra weight to the rhythm while a fantastic vocal sample adds a strong texture, another top notch effort!

The first remix comes from Tribal Warriors aka M.I.K.E./Push. As we all know Mike is a very busy guy with DJing and a heavy studio workload but thankfully he has had time to revamp Tribal Warriors as it was one of his popular monikers. Keep an eye out for more TW material in the future. The remix intros with some very cool synth and FX sounds that lead up to a nice rounded kick and crispy hat combo. Lots of tech elements creep through here with the bass taking a dominant role, great use of the vocal here and some fantastic synth work gives this track a huge punch!

Yuriy From Russia provides the next remix, Yuriy has been well received since his first couple of tracks on Bonzai Progressive and Progrez. Here he delivers more of that quality with a well rounded progressive house groove. Nice and steady rhythms are built with minimal percussions and chunky kicks. The big contributor here is that bassline as it meanders through the sound with a warm lush vibe, stabby synths make their mark while on the break a short melodic pad gives way to this thumping prog groove.

FILTH & SPLENDOUR – ROMPER STOMPER (BONZAI BASIKS)

[soundcloud id='87093867']

Oli Cassidy and James Trystan make up the duo of Filth & Splendour and after appearing on a few compilations they make their full Bonzai debut with “Romper Stomper” along with a couple of banging remixes. Based in London and enjoying residencies at top clubs, the guys run their own label Itch Records and they have also appeared on many other labels releasing everything from house, deep house, techno, electro and progressive tech.

The original mix is a wild ride into tech house, the track intros with a well rounded subtle vibe but soon transforms with a thick grungy feel on the bass and real crisp razor sharp hats over a cool thumping kick. Perfect fodder for the floors and will easily get the crowd rocking with a romp and a stomp!

Up first on remix duties is the return of techno master Tribal Warriors aka M.I.K.E.. TW has made a comeback with his latest track “08” on Basiks and that unique sound has stayed true. Today we see his talent applied beautifully to this track. Well crafted techno kicks and hats intro the tune with a simply amazing hook coming in soon after, deep tech house at its best here folks, listen and learn!

Amsterdam based Ozan Kanik is our next remixer and he delivers the goods in style, huge kick and offset bass intros with a mini break leading up to a full on pumping groove. On the main break a brilliant robotic vocal fits perfectly in the sound and then we kick right back into it for a huge banging sound.

TRIBAL WARRIORS IS BACK HOME, AN INTERVIEW WITH THE MAN BEHIND THE PROJECT!

We caught up with M.I.K.E./Push as he took time out of his very busy schedule to answer a few questions. With a lot of projects on the go and the owner of many different monikers we get an exclusive reveal on some of Mike’s best known guises as he resurrects them for the 21st century along with an insight into the man himself.

Mike1

Hi Mike, thanks for taking the time to have a chat, how are you today?

Mike: Hi thanks. Can’t complain, just finished a remix and a brand new track, happy days!

You’ve been based in New York for a few years now, how have you been adjusting to life in a new country?

Mike: About three years now, yes. Life is MUCH different in New York City. I did visit many times before, but living is a totally different experience. My first time here was back around 2000 when I played for what was back then, The Limelight, it was a great experience.

You’re a very busy man right now, producing under different monikers and DJing across the globe what do you do in your downtime?

Mike: Messing about in my studio still is a downtime for me. But family is important to me and we do special things as much as possible. I also love training my oldest boy for football, I know he appreciates that. I’m a huge follower of Barcelona FC, so there you go.

How would you define your sound and what are your inspirations?

Mike: My main heroes and reason for my love for synth is Depeche Mode. Although very different sounding, they are the main reason why I am here doing what I love, which is music. I grew up in the 80ties when Acid House and Belgium made New Beat conquered the Club scene back then, and the first time I put my hands on a synth, I knew it was love at first touch.

You have many guises that you produce under and a few in particular that you focus on, how do you switch from each project and still maintain the creativeness for each of them?

Mike: Well, sometimes it starts out by me just walking into the studio. I get into a few sounds, tweaking here and there, and a track comes out of it, either during or after, I decide this is X alias. Nowadays my most used aliases are M.I.K.E. , Push and Plastic Boy, and I know when I want to produce something under those aliases, so I just take it from there.

And speaking of projects, we hear that you are returning home to Bonzai and bringing back a couple of your Bonzai monikers, can you tell us which ones and why you choose now to revamp those?

Mike: Oh really? Haha, well, my connection with Bonzai will never fade, and there is a reason for that. We’ve recently discussed about releasing a new Tribal Warriors and Sector 7, its more darker progressive yet with that M.I.K.E. touch. It all started after our 20 years of Bonzai reunion last year, we all felt good meeting up and from one came another. And of course there’s Push… will it be back? watch out for that one!

Rumour has it that you are creating a new album for Bonzai, can you tell us anything about that?

Mike: One word – 4 letters. Can you guess? The rest I say no more!

Do you prefer DJing or producing, and why?

Mike: I prefer BOTH! producing is a HUGE privilege and passion, and having the power to share my music with the world is a blessing and I take FULL advantage of that with my DJing.

Just last year you were part of Bonzai’s 20 year party, how was that for you?

Mike: It was awesome, I had a blast! gathering together with all the guys was a real trip, more like this please.

You’ve worked with so many great artists over the years, particularly within Bonzai’s realm, do you have any favourite collaborations?

Mike: There are some many great people I collaborated with, in and out of Bonzai. I hold a special place for these experiences! Armin, Moby, Rank 1 ,Fred Baker, Airwave .. and so on.

Apart from Tribal Warriors and Sector 7, what are your plans for the future, can you let us in on any secrets?

Mike: Tribal Warriors and Sector 7 are once a year spin-offs. More Live shows for Push! Yes, something that’s on high demand from my fans! And I will bring it back as long there is a demand for it. The bookings are flying in for this coming summer, so keep an eye out! and this time it will go globally!

Well Mike thanks for taking the time to speak with us, best of luck to you and your family in whatever you do, thanks.

Mike: Thanks!

TRIBAL WARRIORS – 08 (BONZAI BASIKS)

[soundcloud id='86173024']

Tribal Warriors aka M.I.K.E. aka Push returns in explosive fashion with a highly infectious slice of techno, backed up with quality remixes that are sure to rock the floors.

Mike Dierickx really needs no introduction, one of the hardest working artists on the scene we are all very well familiar with the scope of his amazing talents as a DJ, producer and highly sought after remix artist. Tribal Warriors last release came back in 2002 with “Spirits In Love” on Bonzai Limited and was a top club track for a long time after, now he’s back with that unique vibe and a modern twist on this track entitled “08”.

The original mix fits right into the techno grooves of today with a classic kick and percussion intro with a subtle bassline waiting in the wings. The tune builds up to some quality tech synth work with a retro vibe oozing from the sound. A huge monster of a tune which will be on a lot of playlists for sure.

Popular visitor to Basiks Jamez delivers a sublime take with his Jamez’s Peace and Love Remix. The funk is turned up a notch with a stunning bassline. Hypnotic percs are a big focus here but the main event is on the synths. Superbly crisp and clear old style synth pushes this track up to peak time status and will be a feature on many floors around the world, brilliant stuff.

Ugur Yurt & Tofke are no strangers either and they pull out all the stops to deliver a wonderful remix full of depth and a tribal twist. Surreal basses intro the track with bongos and tablas giving that tribal element while a siren like synth hits you between the eyes and we settle in for an energetic ride. On the break things heat up with quality FX and a riser kicking us right back into this strong, solid groove.

A welcome return for a project that was hugely respected and missed for all these years, welcome back Tribal Warriors!
