THE FRENCH CONNECTION – ANGELS EP (EYEPATCH RECORDINGS)

[soundcloud id='89270361']

Popular Dutch producer and remixer The French Connection returns with another absolute stunner of an EP.

“Angels” kicks off with a cracking vocal which leads into a tech house groover filled with super synth shots and a strong percussion arrangement. The bassline provides an upbeat vibe and on the break a brilliant piano is accompanied by more top quality vocals. Something different and something that works so well, expect to see this one get a lot of plays.

“My Style” takes the darker road through tech with a sinister sounding deep bass and even more sinister sounding vocal samples. Smooth drums and percussion give a steady rhythm here and on the break we get more of that fantastic vocal and great FX work. Hypnotising grooves and one for the big floors all over.

THE FRENCH CONNECTION – NOAH EP (BONZAI BASIKS)

[soundcloud id='62789780']

Dutch producer and remix wizard returns to Bonzai Basiks with a superb three track EP filled to the brim with awesome tech vibes.

First up we have the title track “Noah”, kicking off in a kind of funky vibe with a cool synth stab, the tech influences build up and stomp hard by the time the tune breaks, gritty synth and sharp hats prevail and kicks back in with a vengeance bringing with it a huge hard edged sound, massive tune that will get the floors pumping!

“New Rank” is a more minimal approach to the tech sound, big focus on the drum arrangement and percussions, lots of FX sweep by and on the break we get a glimpse of a really cool synth line with a heavy filtered vocal talking about house, big build up kicks in to a serious tight groove, massive sound!

Finally we have “Love, Honor And Dance’ (12 O’Clock Mix)”, again quite minimal with some awesome percussion work and a nice chunky kick, the track moves along at a cool steady pace and then some brilliant sound manipulation occurs, amazing production skills.

MR. DELLO – WOADI MOAN (BONZAI BASIKS)

[soundcloud id='62044850']

Debut artist on Bonzai Basiks Mr. Dello impresses with an electro tech joint backed with quality remixes on “Woadi Moan”.

Dello has been influenced by the synth era of the eighties while listening to the likes of Depeche Mode, Bauhaus, Yello, Kraftwerk, Joy Division, Giorgio Moroder and Pet Shop Boys. After hearing Danny Tenaglia in an Athens nightclub he was hooked into electronic music and started to collect vinyls and get involved in piano lessons. Many study years passed and he ended up working as a sound engineer on concerts all over the world. He is now enjoying a successful DJ career around Greece and continuing to produce quality sounds.

“Woadi Moan” intros with a classic electro kick and builds with lots of bongo percussion and a bouncy bass, lots of brass stabs and a short spoken vocal fill up the sound. On the break a simple melody comes and that brass stab dominates, cool FX add an extra layer, solid rhythm!

On the remix we have Greek artist Sa.Du tweaking the controls to display a mighty tech house vibe. Upbeat sound with lots of Latin inspired percs, awesome deep bassline and sharp, crisp hats, very nice arrangement from a fast growing big name at Bonzai Basiks.

Next up is Dutch producer The French Connection with a quite funky little tech house slice, nice intro with a lot of drums and percs mashed together, the tune then kicks into a cool groove with spoken vocal throughout. Throbbing bass and some really cool sweep FX, on the break things start to funk up with an awesome organ sound.

End of the year compilation, including all the best tracks released in Bonzai Basiks in 2011.
Includes original tracks and remixes from Kentaro Kaji, MiniTech Project, Lucio Grandi, Kernel Key, Daily Dose, Project KF, Ecco, Sa.Du, Kevin Cheung, Markus Ilgner, The French Connection, A. At the launch the style on this label was a bit more tuff to describe in a few words. You’ll just have to grab some releases and judge them for yourself. We like to call it the more intelligent progressive approach with the first release with some tech, house and electro influences and yet playable for the more advanced deejays out there. However recently (summer 2010) we decided to go full focus on Techno and Tech-House.

EPISODE 55: Lights Electronika & Valeria Croft featuring Kash – Multiply (Piston Recordings)

The Lights Electronika project started in the end of the last millennium at one of St.Petersburg’s high schools where the project’s future creators met. Max and Leon shared the same passion for music, hip hop being their major interest. First thoughts about electronic music came to them in 1998 after the guys saw a TV show dedicated to new music styles of the time.

In 1999 the duo lost each other for a while Leon moved to Finland, but after a year they met again in Helsinki where they got to know drum and bass music and went in that direction. Max and Leon dived into the fast-changing world of electronic music. Soulful and Atmospheric D’n’B pushed guys to transform their affection to the style into something more than just a hobby.

Leon learned to use music software to write his first D’n’B samples in Finland while Max started his professional music career as a Dj at one of St.Petersburg’s music promo groups. After gaining the needed experience and some success with audience, Max and Leon united to create a joint project, which started off as a series of parties dedicated to drum and bass.

In 2007 the guys finally got the opportunity to work together when Max moved to Finland. Meanwhile they began to develop an interest to the house music and new experiments led to the creation of the Lights Electronika/Synthetic Pigments projects. The latter one was fully dedicated to the soulful D’n’B.

Since 2007 Max and Leon proved themselves to become a significant part of the electronic world of Finland’s capital with their sets played in mainstream clubs of Helsinki…
