Oraa & Ekai make their duo debut on Piston the superb two track Hot Like 95 Fahrenheit. Great to see Oraa return to Piston after his last release a few years back with That Go EP which was very well received indeed. Since then he has released on several labels and added his skills on remix duty for various artists. Ekai is a lover of house in all its forms and while he may seem relatively new to the scene he brings a fresh sounding quality to house music and he lists some of the greats of house as his influence such as Masters At Work, MK and Green Velvet. An exciting future for this Spanish duo as their music will attest, we’re looking forward to more in the future.
Hot Like 95 Fahrenheit intros with a classic styled kick and hat combi that always gets the appetite whet. Cool vocals creep into the sound early on and give us a glimpse of things to come. A superb pounding, throbbing bass takes full control of the sound as it bounces through the groove while those MC style vocals do their thing. Super tight drums bring a solid rhythm and keep the dancing feet moving easily. All throughout the track we get shook to the core by that brilliant bassline which really holds the track up beautifully. Get this on your playlist, you will not be disappointed.
Sun Won’t Shine Forever gets going with a powerful kick that hits you right in the chest and is joined by some crispy distorted open hats. Cool siren FX fill out the background as cool analog sounds bounce along the groove. A deep rooted bass lurks at the low end and allows the mid range sounds to flourish. Sinister sounding vocals sound off throughout and provide a dark narrative as much softer voices filter through. Cool dark sounds for the late night sessions, superb stuff.

Piston Recordings has come a long way and gained the support of top jocks all over the world since its creation in 2007. Now in its fifth year, and with an ever increasing artist roster, the quality continues to flow in style. Coming soon we have a compilation, “Best Of Piston Recordings 2012″ to celebrate a successful year for the Portuguese outfit. The compilation consists of superb deep house and techno cuts from an impressive line-up including, Piek, Brett Lawrence, Accatone, Baltj More, Daniel Karma, Garcy Noise, Oraa, Valeria Croft, Vasco, Lights Electronica, newly signed Dimitry Liss and label founder Rogerio Martins. Piston prides itself on being not just about music but also about building a family of artists creating special bonds that will stand the test of time.
Many of the tracks have featured in playlists from Richie Hawtin, Nick Harris and Michel De Hey to name a few, with Richie Hawtin hammering Piek – Susurros multiple times in one weekend. Tracks have also been featured heavily on download portals and are included in a lot of DJ charts as well. Rogerio has also been busy on the club circuit with a host of label nights gaining popularity across Portugal.
You can expect the very best on this compilation from the deep tech fuelled grooves of Valeria Croft’s “Hippy”, sublime blissed out beats from Vasco with “It’s never Too Late” and the solid deep house rhythm on Accatone’s “Future Us”. Rogerio Martins “I’ll Bring You Home”, Brett Lawrence’s “Remember That Jack” and GarcyNoise feat. Bizzarre DJ’s “Pussycats Howl” adds deep funk while a mixture of deep house and tech rounds up a brilliant year for Piston.
Piston’s artists enjoy much success on the DJ circuit and are also in demand for remixes on various labels and guest mixes on radio stations all over Europe.
The future for Piston is bright with many more projects in the works and with previous releases on vinyl being well received this can only mean more to come.
Spanish DJ and producer Jurgi Oraa Diaz aka Oraa is no stranger to the Piston stable, having worked on many projects in the past with Piek and others we see this talent delve into the depths of house with his That Go EP. Oraa has enjoyed releases on many labels including Shugar Shock, Piston and Lantus recordings. His music has gained a lot of support worldwide with the likes of Brett Lawrence, Accatone, Rogerio Martins, Pedro Goya, DJ Fly, Jesse Voorn and DJ Sneak to name a few spinning his tracks.
“That Is” keeps us in the deep side of house with a throbbing bassline yet providing a more funked up vibe, some very cool synthy sounds are featured here and with another superb vocal sample, which adds beautiful textures to the track, there is an awesome balance that works very well.
And secondly we have “It’s Go” creating a sublime deep atmosphere, solid beats with a simple almost acid bassline, huge synths wind up throughout the track to raise a wall of filtered sounds with a real cool vocal sample added in. Super cool groove on this and is a cert to be picked up by many!
