RECENT POSTS: Manu Riga
Matt and Manu are back in duo form again with another sublime, tantalising progressive cut. These guys are currently hitting top form with their works, they set the bar high when they delivered You Are Contagious back in February and without doubt they have maintained their attention to quality this time around. So much going on at the moment for these guys, individually and together. They have successfully launched their own radioshow Ethnoscience and have appeared as guests on many other shows over the last few months including a spot on The Diversity of Progressive. Manu continues his run of top notch pressings with remixes for various artists including his own remix on Blufeld’s A World Less Ordinary and with Matt on Dark Soul Project & Mathov featuring Fe Malefiz’s We Are Not Alone. He is also working alongside another superb artist on a new project which we will learn more about soon, so stay tuned. Matt also continues to deliver the goods, he is a constant feature on Joof and has a brand new single coming very soon on Bonzai Progressive as well as a feature on Recoverworlds newest compilation. Lots of things happening for Matt in the coming months covering both releases and DJing, so keep an eye out as he could be playing somewhere near you soon.
Submerged Needs intros with a dark atmospheric vibe as tight drums combine with a nice big chunky kick and FX that lurk in the background with a sinister edge. A deep throbbing bass shores up the rear as various layers begin to rise including rich strings and a superb ethnic voice. A short break winds down before we get locked into the solid grooves of the track complete with chugging bassline and fantastic synths. A subtle melodic flavour rings throughout the sound as we are led deep into the progressive world. The main break throws up more of that stunning ethnic flavour and a colourful selection of sounds before getting right back into full on mode. A truly deep slice of progressive that is not to be missed.
Silence In My Head can only be described as a stunning piece of work. A super tight construction filled with punchy kicks and a bassline that melts into the groove beautifully while chugging right through the sound. A superb display of various little synth shots litter the groove and build a kaleidoscope of perfectly matched sounds. On the break we find ourselves deep within a classic progressive vibe as a haunting vocal comes through alongside a sweet melodic sequence. The lead synth is where it’s at here and coupled with that driving bassline we get a nod to the great days of progressive sounds. A big hitter here that will definitely be featuring in many, many sets all over.
Blufeld returns to take us on one of his beautifully colourful progressive trips with the superb A World Less Ordinary which comes packed to the hilt with three top notch remixes. As ever Blufeld remains hard at work in the studio and he has recently announced his 4th studio album is just about ready for our listening pleasure, so stay tuned for more on that. In the meantime his latest track Threlkeld got a nod on Drizzly Records’ Trance Sessions 14. As well as that his remix on Greenage’s Lost Memories stalked the charts for a while and keeps with his constant presence on the scene. Exciting times ahead that you will not want to miss.
The Original Mix takes us on a beautiful journey into the progressive sound with a wonderful driving bassline on top of a tight drum arrangement. The attention to detail is sublime with sweeping pads and FX creating textured layers that blend effortlessly. As the track reaches its peak we are locked into an intricate web of melodies that just seem to flow into our minds with ease. The break gives those melodies their chance to shine with a superb synth hook that climaxes with us getting shoved right back into the main groove, excellent stuff yet again from Blufeld and not to be missed.
Up first on remix duty we have the ever impressive Manu Riga with his Vision Remix. Manu continues to deliver the goods with only the highest quality in mind. He is always looking for new angles and pushes himself past any barriers that get in the way. While 2014 was a big year for him, 2015 is already shaping up to be even bigger with multiple projects on the go with various artists. His collab with Matt Holliday got off to a flying start with their Ethnology EP (You Are Contagious & Roots) which charted well upon release. Keep your eyes and ears peeled for more on this guy soon, you will not be disappointed. On the remix Manu goes full on right from the get go with a brilliant evolving offset bass that drives the track beautifully with the help of a nice punchy kick and a trademark tight drum arrangement. Running through the track we get an almost acid-style riff that filters brilliantly throughout. High strings come into play alongside an angelic voice that melts into the sound. In the background a complex array of FX and sounds fill the spectrum giving us lots to focus on. Another fine slice of prog from Manu that will definitely fill a peak time slot.
Mark Found is up next on the remix and in typical fashion he knocks it outta the park. We last saw Mark on the remix for Thorin’s Secrets back in October 2014 and since then he has released various cuts on different labels with a lot of attention going his way. Also in recent months, Mark launched his own radioshow, Cityscape on DI.FM which is gaining great momentum as he takes listeners deep into progressive territory, worth checking out every third Thursday of the month at 20:00 CET. The remix here intros with a well rounded kick that packs a nice punch alongside crispy hats and a spacey synth line. The intro climaxes into a solid, deep bass that shores up the groove beautifully. On top we have winding synth pads that ebb and flow and bring subtle melodic sequences to the fore. An array of layers provide for contrasting textures that will keep you looked in for the duration. On the break a much brighter melody is unleashed as those sweeping synths mesmerize the mind. A superbly tight slice of prog that will definitely be a big floor hitter.
Horizons aka DJ Shy rounds off this top notch pack with his remix. It’s been a while since we last saw this guy over at the Bonzai offices, although he has been busy with DJing and other releases. Since his last outing he has been a prominent feature on our compilations such as Bonzai & Friends, After Hour Trax 14 and Club Traxx Progressive House 13. Great to see him back and we hope to see more in the future. The intro on the remix takes hold right from the off as we are drawn into a surreal world of floating strings and droning pads that create a stunning atmosphere. A nice big chunky kick gets the track on the move and is soon backed up by a lush bassline that takes control and drives the groove beautifully. On the break a wonderful melodic sequence unfolds as the lead synth winds its way through the kaleidoscope of sweeping pads. A truly epic slice of progressive vibes you will really not want to miss.

Dark Soul Project teams up once again with the superb vocalist Fe Malefiz on We Are Not Alone which comes with two brilliant remixes. These two very talented artists gained a lot of attention with their first collab, Ain’t No Melodies Left, which featured heavily in many sets and charts. Clearly they have a great chemistry that we are sure will last for a long time, looking forward to more in the future.
The Original Mix sets off with a cool rhythmic flow as punchy kicks are joined by a tight drum section filled with crispy hats and energetic slapped hits. Sweeping FX take us through each section as various layers come together. A smooth and warm bass keeps the groove moving as synths begin to swell and the first hint of vocals creep in. When the vocals appear you are instantly captivated by their rich tones and sweet rounded edges. The break delves into a full on epic ride where a superb melodic lead is unleashed alongside those huge sweeps and sweet vocal. A real uplifting progger that will be a big hitter at peak time no doubt.
Belgian DJ and producer Nico Parisi steps up to the remix desk with his deep and grooving cut. Nico is back after a short break and he tells us there is lots in store which we are excited about. He has been a very busy guy on the DJ circuit with various gigs across the country and a spot at Bonzai Classics in Effenaar which proved to be another huge success. Plenty more to come from this guy so stay tuned. The remix intros with a cool punchy kick backed up with various percussive hits. A deep and grooving bass soon joins in as distant pads start to rise. Smooth notes bring a subtle melodic flavour and build up a quite intense vibe as they contrast with the darker tones. On the break we are lured into an evocative world filled with Fe’s captivating vocal and minimal sounds before getting thrust back into the main groove for the duration. A very smooth deep prog vibe that will definitely get a lot of attention.
On form producer and DJing duo Manu Riga and Matt Holliday are up next on remix duties. The guys have really hit the ground running since joining forces just a few months ago and their debut release Ethnology EP will no doubt be making waves across the scene. On the DJing front they have a monthly show on progressivebeats.com called Ethnoscience which is already gaining many listeners. Just recently we spoke to the guys after they met up in the UK where they say they had a great time which included a photoshoot. A new project is already in the works which we are excited about, more info soon on that. Individually they have material that will be released soon, great times ahead for these two very talented artists. The remix intros with a muted kick as various sounds sweep through. The kicks transform into a nice punchy hit while arps and FX glide across the sound. A tight drum arrangement gets the rhythm flowing with a tribal element running through. On the bottom end a deep droning bass adds great depth to the sound before a solid, driving bassline takes over. The layers continue to build with smooth chords bringing a true progressive vibe alongside subtle melodies. Heading into the break we are confronted with an absolutely stunning sequence where the melodic flavours begin to shine to the backdrop of a huge soundscape. Out of nowhere a wonderful piano riff takes over and really gets the hairs standing at the back of your neck before we ease back into the main groove. Superb stuff from this duo that will definitely be a peak time monster.
