Kindred Spirits return to Green Martian with the superb Folies d’Antan which comes with a fantastic remix from Edwin van Cleef. Their last outing saw a remix on Dofamine’s Zero which turned a few heads at the start of 2015.
The Original Mix intros with smooth kick and raspy hat combo as warm chords fill in the background. Cool synths come through providing a sharp, slicing element alongside a groovy lead riff that captivates with its subtle melodies. Sweeping strings cascade through the sound and bring a nice uplifting vibe as a probing bassline finds its way into the sound. On the break the strings and pads combine beautifully to deliver a cinematic styled sequence that really gets your imagination going before we get back into the solid progressive house groove once again. A wonderful slice that will no doubt be a feature in many sets.
UK producer Edwin van Cleef debuts on Green Martian with his stunning remix. Edwin is a purveyor of cosmic, driving grooves and in the past he has remixed for the likes of Chilly Gonzales, Shinichi Osawa, The Knocks and Metronomy. His own tracks have gained huge support from Alex Metric and Starsmith and receiving airplay on BBC Radio 1 and Ego FM. This remix comes after Edwin took a short break, but stay tuned as he plans on a bumper 2015. The remix intros with a nice chunky kick as smooth house chords are met with sweeping pads. Sharp, crispy hats and claps get the rhythm on the move as the layers build. Expertly crafted FX fill the spectrum and create a wonderfully spacious atmosphere. The deep penetrating bass line cuts through the brightness of the track and brings a strong, contrasting deep groove to the sound. The lead synths bring a subtle melodic flavour and on the break we get locked into that melodic flow as the synths, pads and subtle arps wash over your senses. The track kicks back into its solid progressive groove for the duration making this a definite must have track in your collection.
Debut appearance on Green Martian for Dofamine with Zero, which comes backed up with two superb remixes. July 2014 saw Dofamine get a foothold on the scene with Warm on Stripped Digital with subsequent releases on Stripped Recordings and Inmost Records. Well worth keeping any eye on this rising talent.
On the Original Mix you can expect to get a helpful dosing of smooth grooves nicely packaged in a summery vibe. The intro brings a solid rhythmic flow as tight beats do their thing while a side-chained synth creates a warm texture through the sound. A deep bass drone beefs up the groove and takes us straight to the dancefloor for an ass shakin boogie. The track settles into a smooth progressive house groove leaves us wanting more, superb stuff.
One name that keeps cropping up on remix rosters is the veritable Kevin Vega. Known for his tight, professional remixes, we are delighted to see him around the Bonzai HQ once more. His last outing was back in March 2014 with Andromeda and since then he has been in great demand for remix duty. On top of all that, his track Consolidate featured on the chart topping Bonzai & Friends Underground Progressive Collection. The remix here strips down the original and injects that Vega magic which highlights the progressive elements so beautifully. A nice, restrained kick is joined by subtle percussions that make for a steady flowing rhythm. Simple and effective synth melodies start to ease into the sound as the bass bubbles up from below to add a warm touch to the sound. An infectious hook takes over and you find yourself locked into this pure progressive groove. The break zones in on the melodic flavours of the track before we are led right back into full on mode for the duration. Top notch yet again from Kevin.
Green Martian favourites Kindred Spirits hit the remix desk with another fine example of their progressive house brand. May 2014 saw their track Close Up get a great reception from many quarters. Here they bring the remix to life with a very cool percussion led intro that builds up to a nice punchy kick to get the groove on the move. A strong multi-layered bassline comes through as funky keys bring out beautiful textures. This leads up to a sweet piano overlay that is joined by sweeping, rich pads. The break digs deeper into the progressive abyss while keeping a firm grip on those cool house grooves. A definite must have track that will warm up the coldest winter days.
Kindred Spirits return to Green Martian with Close Up and comes with a fantastic remix from Jakhira. We last saw the guys a while back with Square 1 EP which saw good support from many quarters.
First up we have the Original Daytime Setting mix which gets right into full swing with a superb kick that punches through beautifully and is joined by cool and rhythmic percussion. On the break we see a sweet melodic piano take centre stage before crashing right back into this powerful mover. The track is driven by those wonderful basses that truly defines the characteristics of this duo as they deliver another top notch progressive house joint.
Jakhira’s Night-Time Setting mix is up next and again we see the quality of production dripping with purely progressive flavours. Nice and punchy clubby kicks are joined by tight percussion patterns that provide a solid rhythmic base. Beautifully sequenced melodies are big feature and sit perfectly with the groovy bassline. The break is a journey in itself as pads and strings combine with a sweet melodic piece before building back into this full on prog house slice. A definite must and not to be missed!

Kindred Spirits are production duo Jakhira aka and Cosmic Tracer, the guys are back on GM after their first release “Smooth Tricks EP” gained much support. This time we are treated to another two tracker entitled “Square 1 EP”.
This duo really know their stuff, the title track intros with some fantastic hypnotic tribal rhythms which build into a sublime slice of euphoric progressive house. The melodies combine beautifully and the subtle basses add a lush texture. On the break warm pads fade through while melodies creep back into play. The percussion and drum arrangements are top notch and make this track stand out well, superb stuff!
“The Circuit” gives off a retro vibe as the kicks and percussions will attest. The track focuses on the drums as they lock you in the groove, then on the break stunning melodic pads make a show alongside a wonderful droning synth and stark contrasts are drawn. A real sense of oldskool hardcore can be felt within the sound yet the vibe stays true to modern progressive house, great stuff.
