Martins has steered his label through a dizzying amount of quality releases since 2007 picking up support from the likes of Laurent Garnier and John Aquaviva who have confirmed themselves as fans in the past and this new release is sure to find just as much favour with the top dogs.
‘Gonna Be Mine’ is the one Martins original and is a classical inclined bit of mature house music with sombre piano chords draped over nicely shuffling percussion. Subtle human sounds litter the arrangement and more lively stabs enter the fray in the latter half but essentially this is all about the warm and inviting groove.
Remixing first is Paris man Joss Moog, who has released on Robsoul and has a very uniquely musical approach to everything he does. Here he reworks the track into a bit of authentic old school disco with knotted basslines, plenty of vibrant and jangling percussion and warm chords. It’s a great rework and he also provides an exclusive digital only remix that is even more unhinged, funky and freewheeling.
Next up is young UK house talent James Dexter, who has appeared on plenty of great labels in this, his breakout year, and shows why he is so rated with this remix. It’s a stripped back and dubbed out, firmly rooted bit of house music for the heads with tough beats are and lush chords. Closing out the package is Gourmand Music boss and Chicago House purist, JR From Dallas. His Ghetto mix is suitably quick licked, dirty and sleazy, with plenty of abrasive percussive loops rattling along next to busy drums and various vocal sounds.
For house heads there can be few better labels than this, and Piston’s latest offering might just be its best yet.
Early support from Fish Go Deep (Innervisions, Defected), Miguel Campbell (Hot Creations, Outcross, MAM), UGLH (Witty Tunes, Plastic City, Get Physical Music), Tensnake (Defected, Rush Hour, Get Physical Music), Moodtrap (Tsuba), Joyce Muniz (2020 Vision, Exploited, Snatch!), Claudio Coccoluto, Ekkohaus (2020 Vision, Morris Audio, Cargo Edition, Liebe Detail), GIOM (Ornate Music, Lost My Dog, Phobic), X-Press 2, Kirby (Lost My Dog, Loco Records, Nordic Trax), Matias Zeque (Akbal Music), Jakobin & Domino (Large, Luv Shack), Ricardo Miranda (Rush Hour), Marcus Sur (MBF LTD, Noir, RESOPAL), Mark Knight (Toolroom, Ministry of Sound), Steve Mac, Black Loops (Toy Tonics, Gruvv), Moliner (Depaart, Gimmick Records) and more!

Piston Recordings is back on plastic with its third vinyl outing. “Ghetto Tales EP” delivers four superb deep house cuts from top quality artists including label boss Rogerio Martins, JR From Dallas, Dimitry Liss and J.Cub.
First up is Piston head honcho Rogerio with his wonderfully deep “We Need To”. This track gets right down to business with a super tight arrangement filled with chunky kicks and crispy hats. It’s hard to sit still as the track builds with suave deep house chords, cool vocal samples and later on sweeping pads that binds the track up brilliantly.
J.Cub aka UK based DJ and producer Jacob Kelly debuts on Piston with the deeply delightful “Don’t Stop”. The track has a very distinct deep flavour form the off, cool snares are accompanied with equally cool vocal samples and a throbbing bassline that will have any floor shuddering. A strong solid groover with a gritty edge, top stuff.
The very popular Dimitry Liss is up next with his multi faceted track “Pimptastic Waterloo”. Dimitry has a knack for combing raw, urban vibes and deep house grooves, which he does brilliantly. Cool and sophisticated house chords are married with a very street fuelled beat with a host of classic vocal samples thrown in, superb!
JR From Dallas aka Jerome Asselin completes this package with the energetic “Down Society”. Deep house vibes are evident but with an injection of pure energy which gives it a unique flavour. Lots going on here with a tight arrangement tying things up beautifully. The bassline pounds the senses and distant vocal sounds add texture to the vibe, top notch!
The Secrets Of The Trade is a new Piston Recordings compilation series featuring a handpicked selection of the finest Deep House tunes around. This first installment comes with original tracks and remixes by Kerri Chandler, DJ Sneak, Mark Farina, Detroit Swindle, Hector Couto, Rick Wade, Shades Of Gray, Joss Moog, Jordan Peak, Alex Agore and several others!
JR From Dallas (France) and Lurob aka Luis Roberto (San Francisco) join forces to deliver an absolute stomping house fuelled EP. While the guys make their Piston debut with this release they have already a very impressive list of tracks on labels like Tango Recordings and Robsoul Recordings to name just a couple. Both these guys have house music in their bones which enables them to produce such quality, they also DJ regularly playing at amazing house inspired venues all over.
The first track up is “Deep Into”, pure and simple straight up house vibes, cool steady grooves carved up with tight drum and percussion patterns with a very effective synth line throughout. The big focus here would be the use of an all time classic vocal sample which does not disappoint.
“Cigarettes & Frites” is a much more deeper and energetic affair with a solid harder edged kick with sharp and crisp hats accompanying, the percussions are expertly crafted and we also get a top notch bassline. Again we see great use of some spoken vocals that adds flavour to the track, great stuff.
“Acid Mathematics” takes us on a different path with super laidback downtempo breaks with an awesome kick and filled with many FX and some classy sounding deep house synths. Short vocal samples pop up throughout tying the track together nicely.
