German DJ and producer Jonny Calypso is back with this brilliant two tracker, Girls Gone Wild. His last outing, Definition was well received and no doubt we will be treated to more of the same on this one. You can catch Jonny on upcoming Bonzai Basik Beats radio episodes soon.
The title track, Girls Gone Wild, intros with a nice big phat kick and a deep rooted bass combi. The percussion arrangements build nicely giving off a smooth rhythmic flow as distant arps form up in the background. The bassline keeps a relentless course as it pulsates through the sound beautifully while some very cool and subtle synth work goes off to great effect. The break downs are a showcase for the percussive elements and keep the sound on trek brilliantly. Top notch deep progressive vibes, not to be missed.
Home Alone gets right into the progressive house vibe from the get go as nice and chunky kicks sit beside sharp hats and cool percussions. The bass throbs out a powerful groove that hooks you in for the duration as it hypnotises your mind. In the background a surreal hook plays out and teases up to the break where a gritty analog bass synth takes over before slamming us right back into the main track with a punch. The deep side of prog house just got deeper, a must have for those darkened rooms.

German DJ and producer Jonny Calypso makes his solo debut on Bonzai Progressive with the amazing two tracker ‘Definition’
Jonny Calypso – Definition, out this week on Bonzai Progressive, is featured by Beatport on the Staff Picks section at the Progressive House genre page!
German DJ and producer Jonny Calypso makes his solo debut on Bonzai Progressive with the amazing two tracker ‘Definition’. Jonny first headed our way on his collaboration with Dafar late in 2013 with ‘Spirit’.
First up we have the title track ‘Definition’ which intros with a lovely phat kick and crisp hat combo. A deep and burly bass comes on the scene and will be a contender to punish bass bins all over as it pulsates through the sound. This tough groove powers on mercilessly before a short respite on the break where the percussion takes over and a fading vocal sample is introduced then its right back into this solid deep progressive workout.
‘San Zhi’ is up next and we are eased into the track with a smooth kick led intro and a soothing pad in the rear. Sharp edged hats are a perfect contrast and provide a cool dynamic. A sub level bass is matched brilliantly with pads and give off a solid feel to the sound. As the track progresses a gritty and very powerful synth line is introduced which gives the track a cool edgy vibe. Truly deep and dark progressive house which be a gift in any box.

Australian producer Audio Noir has been rather busy on the remix front lately, but he has also been working on his own material. ‘NY Xpress’ is his latest incarnation and comes backed with a slew of top class remixes.
The Original Mix intros with a cool chunky kick and metallic percussion combination which leads the rhythms smoothly. A subtle yet very effective bassline sits back and gels the vibe together beautifully before it explodes into a full on groovy progressive workout. One big feature here is a simple synth riff that dominates throughout with huge impact on the sound. Top stuff yet again from down under!
First up to the remix plate we have Sector 7 aka Mike Dierickx. Mike as usual is very busy indeed with his Club Elite Sessions, remixing, producing and DJing around the world. Here he takes us on a tour of progressive charged tech vibes, the intro leads nicely into a tough edged bass sound that transforms its way through the track creating contrasting textures. Cool synths wait in the wings and on the break they burst forth delivering a stunning tech twist to the track, superb stuff.
Belgian DJ and producer Nico Parisi is our next remix artist. Nico is currently working on new material and is dusting off the retro after his superb set at Bonzai Retro 2013. His latest track ‘Caress’ is very well received and we are sure to see more from this guy soon. His remix sets off on a cool flowing progressive journey right from the get go as a chunky kick sets the scene alongside a droning bass sound. Sweeping FX add textures and percussive elements fade through. On the break the deep resonating bass comes to prominence with a cool vocal sample thrown in. Fantastic darkly vibes which will sit perfectly in many sets.
Fresh off the back of his last release ‘Spirit’, alongside fellow producer Dafar, Jonny Calypso is up next on the remix. Jonny’s mix intros with well rounded chunky kicks with sharp, crisp percussions. A surreal pad lurks in the depths as a wonderful bass begins to rise. The break becomes a respite to the darker sounds with a percussion led groove and strange FX filtering through before slamming back down into dark prog territory, brilliant stuff.
Lloyd Trimmer aka Cordoba delivers his own round of prog beats. UK based Lloyd seen his debut remix on BP on the Mindgamers track ‘The Crown’ which seen top reviews from all quarters. The remix here intros with well crafted percussive instruments alongside cool FX. A truly deep and intense bass grips the sound and dominates the track with gusto. The drum section is well crafted and keeps the rhythms flowing as a hypnotic synth note joins in. Massive bass led track that will feature in many playlists for sure.
Debut on BP for Jonny Calypso and Dafar, these two guys hail from Germany and they met for the first time in January 2011, they soon became good friends. Dafar has a big vinyl library at home and is a great graphic designer. Jonny has been creating his own tracks since 2009 and has worked with great artists like Criss Source, Jon Silva, Donique and Niels Van Gogh to name a few. Both these guys have the same taste in music which means they are open to everything with a good flavour and good progressive vibes.
“Spirit” gets right into a deep progressive flow from the off with snappy kicks and a very deep bass that reverberates through the sound. Crispy hats soon follow creating a cool rhythm and setting the scene for an epic journey. The minimal nature of the intro fades and superb synth sounds filter through. A monster of a tune with a driving progressive groove that will shake any floor!
“Unknown Reality” sets off with a superb kick, hat combi which provides a solid layer for the fantastic tough edged bassline to poke through. Great build up of sounds with a subtle percussion line have a big influence on the groove. Along with that we get a synth that gradually flows into the sound adding a cool texture. Wonderful hypnotic grooves and a must for any box!
