Darouge is back after his “Ohwha EP” on Basiks with his three tracker, “Displacement EP”. Deep house grooves at their finest here which is a testament to this guys hard work and dedication.
The title track sets us off into the realms of deep, lush vibes courtesy of an outstanding bass that throbs out a hypnotic rhythm. Nice and tight arrangement with an almost bouncy feel as the crisp hats do their work. Soft piano chords sit back as distant sounding strings begin to rise. A cool vocal sample makes an appearance and rounds off an awesome cut.
“These Days” goes deeper still, heavily FX’ed vocal samples dominate the intro as the kicks and percs gather steam. A real low end sliding bass lurks in the depths and on the first drop a huge synth takes over setting the scene for a monster ride through the deeper side of house music. The main break offers up some quality synth work and expert manipulation of sounds, top notch.
“Laced” delivers a much more minimal vibe with the focus on huge kicks and subtle percussions. Again we see Darouge apply his expertise into a sublime bass track with very soft deep house chords bringing up the rear. As the track progresses many more elements begin to show with some classy sax and organ sounds, superb stuff yet again!
Bjoern shows up on Eyepatch Recordings after his return to Bonzai on Basiks with the track “Mangue”. Here he delivers a stunning three tracker “Panorama” with all the qualities of true deep tech house.
The title track gets right into the action with lush deep house grooves, superbly tweaked kicks add a nice thump on the track while the percussions do their job to build a solid rhythm. Fantastic chords play throughout alongside some classy vocal samples. The break sends the track spiralling totally into the deep house spectrum with some outstanding pads that grip your soul and keep you locked into this top notch groove.
“Minigolf” intros with surreal pads and a cool, chunky kick before a funky bassline takes over and dominates the track. A cool piano adds contrast while brilliant vocal samples come at you from all sides. The track builds beautifully as the layers reveal many different sounds that combine perfectly creating a deep, sublime groove.
The Dub version takes a slightly darker theme, the pads are beefed up and it still retains a deep, hypnotic groove that would be a perfect addition on any deep set.
Zagreb based Alen Simple debuts on EP with “Lovely Paranoia” and this is backed up with two quality remixes. Alen became interested in music from a young age, by 1999 he was creating his own mixes which led him to secure a spot at the infamous DMC Club. He went on to host his own events at many clubs around Croatia and since he started producing he has seen releases on labels like Hand Job Records and Kulture Room Records.
The Original Mix is full of all the deep tech flavours you’d expect to see from Eyepatch these days. Big chunky kicks are matched beautifully with a rhythmic percussion section. The bass is a huge throbbing affair that will give any speaker the shakes as it pulsates its groovy rhythms. On the break we are treated to a classic vocal sample that always captivates every time you hear it. Great debut here and a taste of what this guy has to offer.
Croatian DJ and producer deepAlexander aka Sasa Skrobar is on the mix with his No Kidding With Matrix Remix. Cool, deep flowing vibes are what this track exudes from start to finish, the drum arrangement is top notch with percussion belting out awesome rhythms. The deep bass meanders along shoring up the groove brilliantly. That very recognisable vocal sample makes a showing here to great effect, top stuff.
French producer Ollie Viero is a self taught musician having started to play drums at just eight years old. He played in various bands for around twelve years before embarking on his engineering studies. 2004 saw him become attached to EDM and soon he landed deals with a few labels like Fur Trade and Xela Digital. Here he compliments the original with a truly sublime remix. Tight arrangements and hypnotic rhythms with the bass taking a lot of focus. Superb percussions shine through and is a testament to Ollie’s early career as a drummer. On the break very subtle melodies come through as a lush pad sweeps across the spectrum before getting right back to a solid grooving track.
Turkish DJ and producer Oushanmete returns after his debut on Progrez “Sun” with this track “Dep”.
Cool upbeat vibes with a solid kick and percussion combination providing a flowing rhythm. Deep and funky synth stabs add a lot of character to the groove and the vocal will have the bootys shaking in no time. Top class track fit for any party!
The very busy Van Czar is back to Eyepatch with another stomping deep house cut entitled “Mon Reve”. The track is backed up with two top notch remixes and proves yet again that when it come to quality then Van is your man.
The original is any deep house fans dream. The intro has a big room feel with a reverbed kick and sharp hat setting off the groove brilliantly, cool vocals fade in and give off a club bar atmosphere while a very simple bass adds huge weight to the sound. Classy, filtered deep house chords are accompanied by a plucky string. On the break the bass takes over alongside a soulful vocal which is the icing on the cake for a truly fantastic cut.
Israeli born Ittai Barkai returns to Eyepatch and is first up to remix duties, big chunky kicks are matched with a wonderfully deep bassline which is both smooth and edgy. Cool percs provide a steady rhythm and very subtle guitars keeps the groove moving. The break goes deeper with some amazing long synths before getting right back into this party rocking vibe, top stuff.
The ever impressive Solartoff gives us his Modulare Remix. A much more upbeat vibe is garnered through brighter sounds, cool bouncy bass and sharp synth stabs are contrasted with a deeper organ sound. The kicks and percussions give off a flowing rhythm which will have any booty shaking. A fun track indeed which will be a welcome addition to any set.
Dimitry gets his shuffle on once again with his next three track release “The What If Device”. His last few releases came out of the home of deep house, Piston Recordings, today he returns to Eyepatch with more of his quality deep vibes.
First up is the title track “The What If Device”, the intro has a tight kick and crisp modulated hats with a classic vocal sample making an appearance. The chunky bassline comes through and deep house chords add texture with lots of vocal samples adding flavour. Another fine example of deepness that will fill a lot of boxes.
“Need Ya Babe” kicks off with a heavy bass drum and filtered synths meandering through the arrangement. Super sharp percussions are a cool contrast here with a great vocal throughout taking the tune up a notch. The track breaks down midway with that vocal standing out beautifully alongside the chords. Sublime stuff yet again from Dimitry.
“With Out You” showcases Dimitry’s talents on arrangement, the kicks and percussions give off a bouncy vibe with the hats being prominent. Nice high pitched strings and the blippy bassline work well together. A superb vocal dominates the break as a phased type synth brings up the rear. Top stuff for the deep house floors.
