Based in Adelaide, Australia DJ and producer Audio Noir is a relative newcomer to the production scene having launched his career in 2007 via Next Dimension Records. His releases have gained support from the likes of Chris Fortier, Jay Tripwire and many more. Here we see his stunning two track debut with “Abgeklärt”.
The title track kicks off in true prog house style with a solid steady rhythm built up with cool crisp percs and a nice thump on the kick. The bass makes an early appearance and soon morphs into s somewhat techy vibe that packs a lot of punch. Plenty of awesome grungy synths and FX will make this a floorfiller for sure.
Heading towards the darker side of progressive house next with “Nocturnalogic”, more fast paced action with a lot of energy and some really cool melodic sequences on the break that could steer this into a trance set just as easily. Tight production on the drums and the synths stand out very well in the arrangement, top notch stuff and one to watch!
Romanian born Cristian Paduraru is a well established producer and DJ on the scene. He is an extremely busy artist with a huge amount of releases and remixes under his belt across many many different labels. He is heavily involved with Christian Records and The Remix Label with an eclectic mixture of styles he can turn his hand to. In the mid nineties he took to the stage with a live performance act called Fire In Water with the style being acid breakbeat with ambient techno. Moving into the 2000’s saw Cristian take to the studio as his main profession and the results are stunning. Today we see Cristian make his full Bonzai debut after brilliant remixes on Manu Riga’s “Everything Comes To An End” and Pablo Gael’s “Libelula”, with the superb prog-tech hybrid, “Games For Girls EP”.
The title track starts us off in Paduraru’s signature style with his Deeptech mix. Strong and steady rhythm on the beats with a wonderful bassline adding extra weight. Top quality synth work here in a true progressive groove, on the break we get an off key piano that adds melancholy to the track. Big strings make a show and a well rounded track is the end product, top stuff destined for many boxes.
“Energetic Enthusiasm” takes on a more minimal approach with tech in mind. A very prominent electro kick takes the lead and builds up along with some quality percussions providing a perfect groove. On the break we get classic tech-house styled synth work with an added short vocal sample with great effect. Big party vibe on this that will have many floors bouncing!
Based in St. Petersburg and debuting on Bonzai is Pierre Zamyatin. Pierre has seen many releases on labels like, Modu Records, Evoked Recordings, Nueva Deep, Electronic Tree and Spring Tube. He mainly produces deep, progressive and tech house but has delved into breaks on occasion. Today we have the four tracker “Light Refractions” which is a testament to his diverse range.
The title track takes us on a somewhat laidback yet powerful epic journey through the progressive house spectrum. Nice and steady rhythms provided by the drum section with a heavy bass underlying. Lots of melodies weave their way in and out of this sound and a sweeping pad adds texture, top stuff.
“The Edge” gets tougher, gritty bass and sharper percussions allow the energy to rise on this, quality FX are used and a brilliant in your face vocal sample takes centre stage now and again. As we continue this tune morphs itself several times, becoming deeper on the break with those wonderful pads. Another epic slice of prog and destined for a lot of boxes.
“Free Your Mind” is one of those tracks that come around on rare occasions, a track that just moves you without you even knowing it. Plenty of quality sounds will keep the ear trained but focus on the bass, solid, constant, hypnotic, you will be hooked on this for sure, top tune.
Lastly we have “Serious Wobble”, once again Pierre’s talents shine through, expertly crafted sounds and top notch arrangements all married together to create this beauty of a track. Strong and solid groove, again the basses are the focal point as they draw you in. Perfect for those late night, darkened room parties!
Born in the UK and now residing in Belgium Jack “Jakhira” marks his Bonzai debut with an absolute stomping EP. Jack had feelings for music even before he could walk or talk and throughout his childhood he was found playing with many musical toys. At 14 he started to write and produce his own compositions and soon after he got his first set of turntables and mixer. Over the next 10 years he would delve into many genres to find his niche within electronica. Since 2006 he has focused more on his productions while evolving his style.
The title track “Truly” is a sublime cut of progressive house with attitude, cool funky flavours are all over this sound with a fresh sounding vocal adding the funky element. Tight drum arrangements and some expertly crafted keys will make this a big floor favourite!
“Our Destiny” is more of the same quality house production, lots of depth and layered textures are made up for the myriad of sounds. Some real nice melodies are evident with a more progressive edge , nice steady rhythm builds and builds up to the break where a musical masterpiece takes over with acidic, piano and strings all playing a part, epic stuff!
“Same Things” rounds up this EP in style, again we see a focused determination in the choice of sounds on offer. The vibe off this tune feels deep rooted with the sounds marrying up in a perfect blend, from the awesome synth keys to the fresh, sharp hats and the cool, smooth hooks we are confident of big support on this one.
Manu Riga aka Adriaan Baussens impresses yet again with another fine cut on our main label. “The Darkness Within” comes with two high quality remixes for your pleasure.
The original mix kicks off with a dark edged vibe and builds with some quality arrangements, a haunting female vocal adds intensity while the bass teases. A solid groove ensues and tight patterns keep the flow. Awesome sounds on the break come together and the strings used round up a true progressive monster, top stuff!
Airwave has been his usual busy self with a stunning take on the original track, the intensity of this track is manifested with a crop of quality progressive sounds. Beautiful melodic sequences take the edge off the darker side and you find yourself lost in this sublime world, the vocal comes through brilliantly on the break with a build up to euphoric heights, once again the master delivers a strong favourite for the masses.
Frangellico aka Julian Farina Balbi hails from Argentina and is a main feature with the progressive label Sudam, he is also attached to many of the label nights hosted across South America. An impressive resume follows him with many releases since 2005. Here we see his debut remix on Bonzai with a deep dark progressive groove, strong and solid sounds with an ethnic vocal and dark melodies are a testament to the influences in his work. This will be on a lot of playlists all over.
The next remix comes from Italian duo Andrea Del Grosso and Antonio Castaldi aka AquAdro. The guys first got together in 2007 and formed their dark progressive house project and have since released top quality production on many labels, this remix marks their debut appearance with Bonzai and they have certainly delivered the goods in style. The track kicks off with a wonderful ethnic styled vocal that sits perfectly over the deep dark groove made up of a superb bassline and tight drum patterns. A real progressive vibe ensues constantly building the layers up to the break where that vocal takes centre stage with some sinister pads in the background, a truly well rounded track that will be a main feature in many sets.

Laurent’s unique almost cinematic style captivates the mind right away with subtle strings and then kicking right into the groove with a solid kick and an amazing bassline. Beautifully crafted melodies swamp on the break with an intense build up kicking us back in. The original vibe is well represented with that added layer of epicness from the master!
