PLACID LARRY – TRAPEZE (BONZAI ELEMENTAL)

Daniel Ray Van Zyl aka Placid Larry returns to Bonzai Elemental after a bit of a hiatus with this fantastic two tracker entitled, Trapeze. We last saw this master of all things downtempo back in 2013 with Everything Is Connected which gained a lot of support on the chillout circuit. Great to see him back once again and we hope to see much more in the future.

First up we have the title track Trapeze which intros with a cool mid range note that leads into a much more lush and deep bassy vibe. In the background we hear subtle more brighter elements that offer a very cool contrast to the sound. A smooth drum section keeps the vibe ticking nicely as the track begins to dissolve into a sweet melodic flowing groove. A beautiful and contemplative track for those quiet evenings.

Everywhere takes on a nice and smooth almost R n B groove with those lush bass tones and organ chords and melodies. The addition of the pounding kicks derives a stark contrast to the more softer edged sounds on offer, which results in a perfectly harmonious sound. Such a sweet, sexy and melodic number that will be the perfect addition for those lazy days or romantic evenings by the fire.

VECHIGEN – THE V-FILES (BONZAI ELEMENTAL)

Dutch based artistic group Vechigen return to Elemental with the wonderfully chilled three tracker, The V-Files. It’s safe to say that this collective are the face of Bonzai Elemental with multiple releases over the last few years. Their last outing, back at the end of 2014 with The Guest House, struck a chord with many in the world of downtempo and laidback grooves. Great to see them back once again.

Alien Believer intros with a wonderful display of FX and rich strings that deliver a truly cosmic vibe. Thunderous sounds converge onto the track while single drum hits break up the ambience, and melodies begin to filter through in the form of high pitched plucks and sweeping pads. An expertly crafted arrangement that will definitely liven up your imagination.

The Visitors sets of with a superb bass pluck that is soon joined by melodic strings that cascade upwards alongside a rising arp. A super laidback drum arrangement is introduced and the dynamic of the track transforms beautifully. Various instruments are introduced and a myriad of melodic sequences ensues resulting in a very poignant, contemplative and uplifting composition, beautiful stuff.

Why Can’t We Be Friends intros with a calming and reflective aura as smooth and warm strings play against the sound of a gentle tide as it ebbs and flows. Deeper, more prominent strings are brought in and a somewhat melancholic vibe follows which is resolved by some beautiful melodies. The perfect music for a meditative evening.

Soft Knees intros with a super smooth and grooving arrangement filled with cool electric guitars, deep droning basses and a slow drum creating a beautiful atmosphere. The track meanders along at a steady pace and offers up some real cool synth sequences that rise consistently throughout. RAVENHERZ – HOST FEATURED BY BEATPORT

ravenherz aka Otto Ravenherz returns to Elemental with a blissful trek into chilldom with Host. At the age of +5, he was watching live performances on VHS again and again and decided to become a Rock Star, but his parents always told him that being a musician isn’t a stable way of life. Later, against the odds, he attended music school and found a passion for electronica as well as studying forensic science. Currently he enjoys dabbling with a wide range of music styles of which the results are outstanding. We hope to see much more from this guy in the future.

RAVENHERZ – HOST (BONZAI ELEMENTAL)

ravenherz aka Otto Ravenherz returns to Elemental with a blissful trek into chilldom with Host. This young Russian producer debuted at the start of 2014 with Safe Place which has since went on to feature on numerous compilations. In his earlier years he was inspired by the Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, The Beatles, AC/DC and Metallica. At the age of †5, he was watching live performances on VHS again and again and decided to become a Rock Star, but his parents always told him that being a musician isn’t a stable way of life. Later, against the odds, he attended music school and found a passion for electronica as well as studying forensic science. Currently he enjoys dabbling with a wide range of music styles of which the results are outstanding. We hope to see much more from this guy in the future.

The Original Mix of Host intros with a beautiful melancholic sequence as deep bass notes lurk in the background. The track bursts into life with an unexpected Drum and Bass rhythm section complete with crispy hats and syncopated kicks underneath a superbly arranged snare. Above the melancholy a much sweeter, melodic flavour can be found among the sweeping pads and the smoothly plucked electric guitar. Perfect fodder for a warm evening by the fire.

Anin Velik steps in for remix duty on Host and delivers a superb cut in the process. The intro glitches into existence with a distorted rising synth and hypnotic low frequency. Beautifully modulated keys fade through as analog sounds sweep past giving off a space age feel. The melancholy seeps into the sound beautifully and is contrasted by some wonderful guitar melodies before the track completely transforms into a tough and edgy slow grooved monster. Big chunky kicks and deep droning basses dominate and then dissipate leaving behind a raw, electrified groove. A track with many faces and interesting twists make this a truly sublime experience.

VECHIGEN – THE GUEST HOUSE (BONZAI ELEMENTAL)

Rotterdam based Vechigen return to Elemental after a short hiatus with the wonderfully chilled The Guest House. We last saw this superb artistic group back in May 2014 with Heart Of Croatia and you can expect to be blown away yet again with their brand of totally blissed out vibes.

First up is Chapter One which intros with a cool stuttering hat and a lush swelling pad. A beautifully warm deep bass rises alongside a distant vocal that brings a sweet melodic flow to the sound. Very subtle break beats provide a smooth rhythmic vibe that allows you to lose yourself in the sound. Wonderfully sequenced piano melodies are the highlight of this experience, cascading arps contrast beautifully with softer single hits resulting in a truly uplifting sound. Perfect.

Chapter Two follows on from the first chapter and keeps the focus on those wonderful melodies that are played out with a beautiful piano and rising pads. The main difference between the two is on this track, after the mid-point, a much more intense sequence follows with the introduction of a subtle synth melody and superb flute sequence that really captures the imagination. Simply stunning.
