Bonzai veteran Blufeld returns to Green Martian with his stunning two tracker Threlkeld. As ever we are in for a real treat, just like we had on his last outing back in March this year when Huddlestone Arch was released gaining lots of support. With lots of things in the pipeline we are sure to be hearing a lot more from this guy so watch this space.
First up is the title track Threlkeld with its smooth drum led intro with dreamy pads fading in from behind beautifully. The kicks evolve brilliantly into a nice and punchy hit as the bassline begins to drive the track forward and giving that purely progressive house feeling to the sound. The track has a nice organic feel to it and is contrasted perfectly with sweet melodic flavours coming off the synths and pads. Top notch stuff yet again from Blufeld , not to be missed.
The Middle Of Nowhere intros with snappy percs which lead up to a deep resonating bass and backed up with punchy kicks. A wonderful Jarre-esque synth can be heard in the background which provides a solid platform for the construction of an expertly crafted arrangement of sounds. The bass does a great job of holding up the grooves while a multitude of melodies weave intricate sequences. Highly infectious grooves that will leave you wanting more.
Digital Department aka Russian DJ and producer Arseniy Somotov, debuts on Green Martian with the superb ‘You Put A Spell’ which features the delectable vocals of Cara Leigh and comes backed up with two quality remixes. Arseniy has been DJing since 2005 and has graced the decks at many top venues across Russia. In 2009 he started producing under his Digital Department guise and has since seen releases on labels like Mystique Music, Incepto Music, Balkan Connection and more. Canadian singer-songwriter-musician and composer Cara is well renowned for her vocal skills within the progressive house and trance sphere. Her vocals hold a melancholic edge which fits very well with electronica and she also records some rock and indie.
First up we have the Original Mix which intros with a nice big 80’s inspired breakbeat featuring big snares a chunky kick and sharp hats, this well crafted drum arrangement holds true throughout and brings a lot of character to the sound. Plucky hard edged basses build a strong platform for the track as the vocals begin to peek through. A darker, deeper bass drone comes into play and gives it a big room feel and works so well alongside much brighter arps with subtle melodic twists. Cara’s vocal tells the story beautifully and you find yourself captivated by her voice which makes this a definite must for any party this summer!
Blufeld steps up to the remix plate with a wonderful progressive house cut that will move the floors no doubt. We last saw the inspirational Blufeld earlier this year with his ‘Huddlestone Arch’ single that performed nicely on the circuit. Since then David has been very busy indeed with other projects which we hope to see very soon. Here he utilises his massive skills and ramps up the grooves with a powerful 4/4 cut. A smooth subtle intro leads us gently into a nice chunky kick and bass combo, the bass reverberates through the sound beautifully as the rhythms come to life with the help of tight percussion and drum arrangements. Cool melodic arps fill the sound and come to prominence on the break alongside samples of Cara’s brilliant vocal. Top notch yet again from Blufeld, a must have!
Next up to remix duties we have Wild Guess which is made up of Belgium based DJ’s J.E.O.F., Config and P.O.W. The guy’s debuted on Green Martian at the start of this year with ‘Nebulae’. Here we are treated to their Incantation Remix. The intro sets of with a muted kick with a throbbing deep bass and a rising synth. The kicks soon get a nice thump attached as the track gathers pace with strings sweeping through the sound and the synth becoming more intense. The track settles into a solid groove and is garnished with subtle, flowing melodic arps. These are matched perfectly to the vocal which has been give a wonderful makeover in the FX department. Nice and solid, hypnotic vibes here and will no doubt turn a few heads.
Blufeld returns after a short hiatus to deliver another stompingly good prog house cut ‘Huddlestone Arch’ which comes backed up with a raft of quality remixes from some of Green Martians best artists. Although David has been away from Green Martian for a short time he has maintained a constant force in the studio with other projects he works on. His last outing, the fantastic ‘Metrobot City’ was given the remix treatment and was very well received.
First up we get into the Original Mix which intros with a fading in percussion pattern and leads to a nice full and well rounded kick. Before long a lush, deep bass pulsates through the sound and provides a solid platform for the track. Very cool melodic arps begin to form and give off a smooth and groovy vibe. The break delivers an almost chilled out experience as that bass takes the lead and allows subtle melodies to float by before returning to the main track resulting in a real smooth and uplifting journey, great stuff!
Brazilian DJ and producer Mathie DeLois also returns to the Green Martian stable with his stunning remix. Mathie’s previous release ‘Warning EP’ was a popular choice among the prog fraternity and here he continues that vein. A tip of the hat to the original as the track eases in with some cool percs as melodies begin to form. The track gets into full swing as the tight kicks and pulsating bass burst through. The break inspires a hands in the air moment as big bassy synths are let loose alongside those cool melodies. A very nice track indeed that will draw a lot of attention.
Next up on the remix we have another GM artist, Delphi. This guy had a great reaction to his last outing ‘Mariana Trench’ and here we are sure to see this repeated. Nice and chunky kicks get the track moving with a rhythmic percussion section soon following. The kicks alone will move you as they have a certain quality that just shouts DANCE! The bubbly bassline adds to the dance factor and is complimented perfectly by a relentless stuttering effect on the synth that constantly morphs with well tweaked parameters. Expertly crafted drums and subtle melodic arps give a cool distraction as this track just seems to plough on through, a big sound no doubt and one that will feature heavily in many sets for sure.
Melbourne based Narel aka Nick Simmons is the perfect choice for remix duties here. Nick’s diverse skills always seem to apply maximum quality in his works. His last outing was for LCD Recordings with ‘The Machines Were Dreaming’ which performed very well indeed. Here the track intros with a cool clanging type sound that soon leads to a very cool bassline that screams progressive. Phat kicks make a show and are the catalyst to an absolute stomper of a tune. Layer upon layer build up smoothly as each sound comes through and lead to a nice melodic arp the sets the track up beautifully. At the break a full flowing and uplifting experience ensues makes certain that this epic journey will leave a positive mark no doubt!
Rounding off this superb pack we have Blufeld’s Hideaway ‘Chilldown Mix’. David strips away all the stomping beats and leaves a truly amazing and inspiring piece of music. Subtle melodies that tease and tease as they weave cool patterns throughout the sound will leave you begging for more. Extremely downtempo beats are the perfect addition to this arrangement and overall you will be left with a fresh sense of being, it is that powerful!

Debut release on Green Martian for Irish DJ and producer Eddie Murray aka Aeonism with his track “My Soul” which comes backed up with two top quality remixes. Eddie has been a resident DJ with John O’Callaghan’s Subculture agency, label and imprint and has begun to bring his studio productions to the live stage. He has seen releases on the likes of Baroque Records and Hotfingers, these sounds have gained support from top jocks including Tiesto, BBC Radio 1, Oakenfold, Above & Beyond, Dave Seaman, Manuel De La Mare, Alex Kenji, Tom Middleton, Andy Moor and many more.
The Original Mix intros with a fantastic bass and kick combi with very cool synths joining to get us right into a blissful house groove. The bassline stands out superbly as it delivers a solid groovy rhythm. Sweeping pads and beautiful melodic sequences add that uplifting touch making this a must have in any set.
Purveyor of fine prog house grooves Blufeld adds his talents in the remix pool with a sublime effort. Here the original mix is stripped down resulting in a slightly darker tone with focus on deep resonating basses and hypnotic synths. Subtle melodies try to peak through deep grooves and on the break they get their chance to shine in a wonderful sequence that leads us right back into this full on prog house stomper. Top quality stuff yet again from the land of Blufeld.
Davide Catania settles in at the remix desk with his take on the original. Davide has seen releases on Green Martian in the past with his most recent “Desert Sky” performing very well. Here he beefs up the sound with much tougher style of sound. The basslines pack a massive punch and contrast well with the sweet piano melodies before breaking down into a cool synth led riff that takes us back into a tough and solid groove. Top track and sure to be popular among many jocks.

With a new release out on Green Martian in the beginning of this month, we took a couple of minutes to chat with David Hearn aka Blufeld!
Hi David, great to speak with you. How are you today?
B: Hello yes I’m great thanks
What sort of things do you like to do in your downtime?
B: Well I’m always looking really to work on the next loop or chord idea for my next production under one of my aliases, to which there are quite a few, just maybe lesser known than my main Blufeld project. I also enjoy various sporting activities.
How did you get into music production and who or what would be your biggest influences?
B: This could be a long answer but I’ll keep this one as simple as I can, 80’s electronic new romantic tunes, 90’s euro dance, which then led to my absolute love for trance which I really started to listen to closely from when I first heard System F “Out Of The Blue” on Judge Jules’ Radio One show back in 1999. Influences? there are many, but I would say the main few at the time which inspired me the most to produce were, M.I.K.E, Airwave, Plastic Angel and Quadran. Just a real combination of trance acts that were around at that time.
Your music is emotive and designed to provoke deep and thoughtful insight, how would you describe your own sound?
B: I would call it Deep & Emotive, with an ethereal lift. I think a lot of producers are pigeon-holed into a certain type of sound a lot, and I like to think I just create the music that I feel from deep inside on each and every production. It just so happens that I have a leaning to express myself in a progressive trance style of sound quite a lot.
We understand you have a new track out now which is a follow up to a track from your very first album, can you tell us more about that?
B: Yes this is a sequel track to my original single which came out on Bonzai Trance Progressive in 2009, it was well received and I felt it could do with a sequel. “Metrobot” is singular about a name I gave to my own imaginary robot. When I was a kid I used to be fascinated with them, so originally I wanted to bring this childhood fascination to life. The sequel single is entitled “Metrobot City”, basically it’s my finalising of my mind that “Metrobot” has to come from somewhere. I wanted to choose a completely new name for this, but at the same time I wanted people to totally recognise the fact that this is a sequel, so hence the title.
You have a very impressive back catalogue now with Bonzai, how did you first get signed to this label?
B: I had listened a lot to artists from Bonzai from way back in the late 90’s, as I used to buy white labels and vinyl from my local independent underground dance music shop. I still have those early vinyls from artists such as Airwave, Push, Blue Alphabet and Quadran to mention just a few. So when I had the right equipment and I had a track that I felt maybe good enough, I knew exactly where I wanted to send my first real demo. The very first tune that was signed to Bonzai was an EP called “Special” this featured two original tracks, “Special” and “Little Wonder” in early 2008.
There is a healthy demand for you to do remixes for other artists, what would be your favourite remix you have done?
B: Well I only ever agree to remix tunes that I feel I can add something to, I have had a fair few remix requests that’s true, but I always feel bad if I have to say no because it’s such a compliment to be asked in the first place. To be honest all the remixes I have done I have enjoyed, although remixing Quadran’s “Forgive Me” was a real delight and also the chance I had to remix Plastic Boy’s “Silver Bath” for a Bonzai remix competition in 2008 was also amazing. My remix went on to feature on a Cream compilation called “Cream Future Trance” in 2009, which was a great moment for me to see, this gave me a lot of encouragement to continue on my journey producing the best music I could.
Already you have three stunning studio albums in particular your latest “Thoughtscapes”, how do you get inspired to work on these and will there be a fourth anytime soon?
B: Thanks for the compliments. I only ever write music from the heart at that moment when I have an idea. Although I normally start with an overall theme or feel, I want to achieve from the album, as this helps me to focus on keeping it sounding like the tracks should be together as a final package. Although I think “Thoughtscapes” is the truest reflection of the journey of my life so far. This album was a concept album and was so easy for me to write as it was just a case of conveying my journey to sound and it felt so natural and fluid. I really haven’t given a fourth album much thought at this stage, although I never say never!!! I have a few projects forthcoming, and my albums have come out 2009, 2011,and 2013 respectively, so 2015? watch this space!!!?!!!?
Can you tell us a bit about what you are working on at the moment and maybe some upcoming projects?
B: Well I have actually had a little break lately from production, the “Thoughtscapes” album was a lot of work, and took a lot from me emotionally and was many countless evenings and nights of work to be honest. Although I have a few releases coming up including a couple of remixes, one for Philthy Chit and another for 06R, also a possible collab in the future with Manu Riga, working directly with him in his studio hopefully. And I have just started work on a new ‘Original’ so we will see how that goes.
Describe a day in the life of Blufeld?
B: I’ll keep this simple. Well I have a day job to earn my living, so I get up and start work for 9am and finish at 5.30pm so by the time I’m at home and showered etc, it’s gone 6 or 6.30pm. Then its food time, then a choice depending on the day, either see a friend or work in the studio. I keep a simple life.
If you could be anywhere else right now, where would you be?
B: I would want to be climbing my favourite mountain called ‘Blencathra’ in glorious sunshine, with a sweeping and swirling breeze wrapping itself around me. It’s just so stunning and the beauty at the peak of the climb that surrounds you is just simply breathtaking, that it makes my heart flutter just digging back into my memories thinking about it.

The ever impressive Blufeld returns with a follow up to his 2009 prog trancer “Metrobot”. This sequel entitled “Metrobot City” comes with two superb remixes and is sure to be a hit just like his 2009 track. Currently Blufeld is busy with remixes and original material with the possibility of a few collabs also, so watch this space!
The Original Mix intros with deep rising synths and subtle percussions, this leads up to a chunky kick which gets the groove flowing. Throughout the track the kicks transform into a type of mini breaks which adds a lot of character to the sound. Melodies play a big part here also with many variations combing beautifully and becoming prominent on the break. After the break the track gains a lot more momentum as the vibe intensifies, quality stuff!
First up on remix duties is an emphatic duo who are no strangers to the Bonzai stable. Castra & Sovve serve up a real summery treat on their remix. The guys have both featured many times across many of Bonzai’s different labels and both guys have also worked with Blufeld in the past. The remix takes on a much more upbeat vibe, the classic kick and hat intro blends nicely into a full on pumping track when the bass comes through. The delightful melodies soon follow and you really do get a sense of summer from the sound. On the break the melodies are king and these build up brilliantly to a perfect climax before settling back into a smooth blissed out ride.
Tokyo based producer 06R is next up on remix. Hisataka is fresh from his last release which was “Air 2.0” on Green Martian and he always delivers the goods with his own brand of quality. Here his remix takes the breaks route with a very intense mixture of sounds. From the off a super tight breaks arrangement takes hold with many more layers being added throughout. The melodic sequences are top notch and blend so well with the tougher side of the breaks. A must have for those later evening terrace parties.
Tokyo based producer Hisataka Ogura aka 06R returns to Green Martian with a true progressive stomper and a follow up to the original “Air” from 2012 which featured on Paul Oakenfold’s Flouressence Essential Mix in July 2012. “Air 2.0” comes with four remixes, two of which are from outstanding artists.
The Original Mix intros with a real summer vibe, cool breaks and a rich vocal sample with a melody of guitar sounds lead us up to a deep droning bassline. The breaks build anticipation and when the four/four kicks come through the track explodes into a smooth and powerful terrace tune. The break produces a wealth of melodies and will get you right into the spirit of the moment. Loads to listen for on this with its myriad of sounds and a track that is sure to get a lot of attention, the perfect summer groove!
Blufeld is first up on the remix, this guy is churning out quality stuff on a regular basis. Not long after his third studio album and plentiful remixes, we see him apply his awesome style to this stunner. Utilising the original vocal for the super smooth intro before the tight kicks take over. Slightly tougher edge here with a gritty, punchy bassline thundering through the sound. On the break the track delivers a raw, organic sequence before getting back to the groove where a superb melody comes through giving stark contrast, awesome stuff yet again from Blufeld.

A much deeper vibe is evident here as the bassline seems to dominate, and what a bassline it is, it winds its way through the groove effortlessly mesmerizing your mind. This is coupled with stunning arps and very subtle melodies which light up the track, another great summer party tune fit for any gig.
The 4 On The Floor Mix is the original without the breaks on the intro for those DJ friendly moments.
The Breaks mix is one of those tracks that would be THE perfect soundtrack to a setting sun anywhere in the world. A feeling of euphoria sweeps over you as the wall of sound cascades over your body bringing a complete sense of being at one wherever you may be at that time, quite brilliant!

Belgian native M.I.K.E. aka Push resurrects another of his famous monikers, Sector 7 with the track DNA and this comes backed up with a superb remix. The last release for this project came way back in 2006 with “Inside Of Me” and before that “Art Of Balance” and “Deep Breath” both on Green Martian from 2000. This is the second comeback for some of Mike’s projects after he revamped his Tribal Warriors guise very recently also.
“DNA” takes us right back to the pure progressive trance sounds of yesteryear with a modern twist. Understated kicks and just enough percussion to keep the rhythm flowing with the bassline holding things together nicely. Big sweeping synths carve out endless melodies, and this really gives it an almost retro feel. Great to see a return to this sound and sure to be a hit among diehard fans and new listeners alike.
Progressive maestro Blufeld takes to the mixing desk for his remix and what a brilliant effort it is too. Blufeld does what he does best and transforms the original into a warm, sultry progressive stomper, excellent reworking on the melodies while keeping true to the original. The bassline has been beefed up a lot adding that lush vibe, top quality stuff yet again.
