Chilean born Alexis Salazar debuts on Bonzai Elemental with his album “Margarita”. Alexis found his musical tastes listening to neighbouring parties while growing up, in the early nineties he was starting to experiment with sounds and soon after he started to DJ. Initially he was into Hip Hop but he quickly found Techno, House and Trance and he was booked for lots of gigs all over the country. He has many varied tastes and today we are treated to a sublime journey through chillout with wonderful soundscapes.
The album kicks off with “Juanito”, a myriad of textures layered into an evolving sound with a continuous sweeping pad and lots of FX going off in the background.
” Admirable” releases a world of melody manifested through a sweet piano and string arrangement, cool downtempo beats add a real upbeat type vibe which is a joy to listen to.
Next up is “Bicho”, quite simply a pure synthesis of melodic strings and FX, this really helps the mind wander and forget your earthly woes, very beautiful track!
“Cian” brings back the beats in a laidback groove, again the synths are the forefront with the emphasis on pads, a sweet piano plonks away and a beautiful pan pipe sound adds an awesome melody.
The fifth track on this album is “Jonatan”, it starts off with deep pads and a shot arp with gritty noise for added effect, the pads dominate throughout with FX hits here and there, remnant of a softer sided Tangerine Dream production, awesome strong sound.
“Dan” has a well crafted tight drum pattern with wafting synths, melodic piano brings a very relaxed mood and your mind really drifts when the violin begins, so soothing.
“Au” has a very oriental theme in the way the sound is teased from the instruments, nice relaxing vibe with lots of melodic sequences, again the FX are used quite well and add a quite surreal touch.
Next up is “El Gato”, slightly tougher than its predecessors with a heavier feeling in the drums, yet retains an ever so sweet melody filled with beautiful sounds, brilliant arrangement .
“Bony” is bordering on classical with is cacophony of strings, many different shades of sound come together and create a wonderful soundscape of stringed instruments from violins to harps, amazing.
Finally on this inspiring debut album is “Luna”, as the name suggests you could quite easily picture yourself either on the Moon or flying past in orbit, spacey type vibe in the way the drums are arranged and the electric feel on the deep piano, many more instruments combine to produce awesome melodies.
A fine addition to Bonzai Elemental, pure quality in the production and destined to be a popular choice.
