I’m Comin’

Bonzai Basiks BB2016172 18 April, 2016

Thomas Genchev makes a most welcome return to Bonzai Basiks with the delectable techno and electronica album I’m Comin’. It’s been almost three years since we last got a glimpse of Thomas at Bonzai and he sure knows how to return with bang. We last saw him back in 2013 with Noise & Silence before an appearance on our Bonzai & Friends – Underground Progressive Collection at the tail end of 2014. Delighted to see him back once more and no doubt we’ll be seeing much more in the future.

The album kicks off with the deep and dubby I’m Comin’ which intros with a superb bass as various FX swirl over head. A cool twangy synth fades through and hypnotises throughout the track while extra basses are drafted in. The track takes on a tougher persona as gritty synths are laid out alongside some very cool vocals. A sublime techno offering and a great start to the album.

Up next we have Space Shift which intros with a mish mash of percussions that form up a cool rhythm. A nice and chunky kick drum joins in and leads the way as strange FX take hold. The almost imperceptible bassline raises its gritty head and fits snugly amongst the myriad of electronic sounds. We move on to the Space Shift (Dub) which offers up a slightly more conventional take of its sibling. A more structured offering with a pounding kick drum and more focused rhythmic patterns. We still get all the quirkiness of the electronica with a sprinkling of techno over the top.

Inner Player throws up a wonderful display techno electronica and where the two collide. We get the pumping techno of the beats and a superb offset synth pulse against the sheer chaos of the electronic sounds that are laid out all over the track. Real cool stuff here that will sit well in any techno set.

Children Of The Earth intros with a collection of percussive elements to the backdrop of some really cool FX that range from everyday sounds to haunting wolves in full voice. A strong breaks sequence fades up to the pulse of a heart beat type rhythm as those FX continue to layer up. The intensity rises as the track continues, the hypnotic pulse and the eerie synths are joined by a mesmerizing sound that creates a solid buzz. These traits can also be found on Children Of The Earth Dancing With The Wolves (Dub) which strips away most of the higher and mid frequencies to leave a truly haunting slice of electronic music that you will not want to miss.

Up next we have Satie’s Lullaby which intros with a colourful detuned melody that draws you in with its strangely captivating charm. Over the top we have a solid kick drum alongside intricate percussion patterns that lay out an evolving rhythm. Stuttering basses provide even more colour to the chaotic scene while the drum section remains the only constant. Expertly crafted and not to be missed.

Me From The Future intros with a real nice punchy kick drum that packs a powerful thump. Subtle percussions ease their way alongside the kicks a surreal bass sequence takes place. A raw techno vibe oozes off the sound as the bass continues its haphazard journey. With some very cool swirling pads overhead this one is an epic ride that will not let go.

Paranormal Activity delivers a solid slice of techno with a real
