PHI PHI – ALONE (BONZAI PROGRESSIVE)

Phi Phi is back at Bonzai Progressive, and this time around he is going solo with the impressive Alone. Featuring remixes from Audio Noir we know that this one will definitely turn a few heads. Phi Phi’s last outing, with studio partner Roddy Reynaert, Atlan performed very well indeed having gained spots on many playlists and DJ charts. Always an exciting time when this guys stuff lands on the desk.

The Original Mix of Alone is a wonderfully constructed slice of driving progressive house. Nice and big chunky kicks stand out as a solid chugging bassline works effortlessly on the groove alongside a tight drum arrangement. In the background sweeping pads create cool melodies that captivate throughout. As we head into the break we find ourselves totally immersed in the sound as a deep droning bass note fades out and reveals a heart beat sound before we are slammed back into the main sound for the duration. A definite must have track in your arsenal and perfect fodder for those building sets.

Australian producer Audio Noir is up to his tricks again as he delivers his Rekonstruction and Instrumental mixes. It was only a short time ago when we last saw this guy with his own Progressive Tales, as well as a few remixes for other artists. Currently he is working on some exciting brand new material which will hopefully be revealed very soon, in the meantime sit back and take in these sublime sounds. Right from the off we find ourselves in the middle of a surreal sounscape filled with wonderful FX that pop up all over. Subtle percussions fade in and out as electrified sounds rattle through and lead us up to a huge breaks sequence. A real deep and throbbing bass joins in the fun as those break beats gather pace in an almost Drum n Bass tempo. The breakdown offers a respite complete with soft pads that soon fade out and leave us with a screaming vocal, which is left out of the Instrumental, and grinding synths. The drum arrangement is top notch as intricate patterns combine in a solid rhythmic state that keep us locked in for the duration. Excellent stuff yet again from down under you will not want to miss.

AUDIOSTORM – OBLIVION EP (BONZAI PROGRESSIVE)

Podgorica, Montenegro based producer AudioStorm aka Ognjen Vukovic†debuts on Bonzai Progressive with the fantastic Oblivion EP. Since early childhood Ognjen was fascinated by music and listened to many different bands including Pink Floyd, Joy Division, Depeche Mode and The Cure. During the 90’s he turned his attention to electronic dance music and began listening to a lot of progressive sounds from the likes of Deep Dish, Darren Emerson, John Digweed and Sasha to name just a few. Having built up his knowledge he started to produce his own tracks which led to releases on Balkan Connection, Baroque, Mystique Music, Polytechnic as well as a host of others. Delighted to have this guy on board and hope to see more soon.

Oblivion intros with a subtle rising melody and smooth percussion arrangement that builds slowly into a cool progressive house groove. The groove is helped along by a superb bassline that rattles along with its pulsating prowess. All the while those super sweet pads create a wonderful atmospheric vibe alongside cascading arps and sharp synths. On the break we are treated to a beautifully rich choir voice that captivates before we are thrust back into the main sound for the duration. A real nice slice here that you will not want to miss.

Get High sets off with soft beats and a cool panning bass which is soon joined by a top notch punchy kick that packs a nice punch. Cool percussion elements come through in the form of short closed hats and sweeping FX. As the layers build we get a closer look at this solid grooving stomper which is completed by a probing plucky bassline. On the break we get lost in a surreal world filled with a myriad of pad sounds that mesmerize before leading back into the main sound. Top notch stuff that will do well in any set.

MANU RIGA & FE MALEFIZ – FORGOTTEN (BONZAI PROGRESSIVE)

The hugely talented Manu Riga joins forces with the wonderfully gifted vocalist Fe Malefiz on their track, Forgotten which comes backed up with a top notch remix from Mark Found. Over the last several months we have seen Manu collaborate with various other artists, from which some stunning results have flourished. This time around is no different as Fe is clearly the right voice for this sound. Manu is a Bonzai Progressive stalwart and an all out work horse, his attention to detail and quality is second to none and the proof is in his works. Fe is no stranger to these shores, she has worked with Dark Soul Project and Mathov on a number of occasions with great support coming in from all angles. But, we’ll let the music do the talking here and remember to keep an eye on Manu as he will have much more coming in the months ahead which we are very excited about.

The Original Mix intros with a real smooth progressive sound as nice punchy kicks are met with an array of subtle percussions that add lots of weight to the groove. A deep reverberating bass sits on the low end with a menacing tease as the percussions become much more prominent. We get the first taste of Fe’s vocal and right away we become mesmerized by the subtlety and richness of her voice. On the break, accompanying the beautiful vocal lies a melancholic narrative as rich strings swell up and take us back into the main groove where a cool, more jagged bass comes through. The track takes us on an intriguing journey that throws up many twists and turns filled with melody and emotion. An epic slice of prog that will definitely appeal to many.

The Dub Version picks up the track without the main vocal from the Original. A captivating sound filled with deep, dark and emotional elements with subtle melodic phrases that caress your soul. Manu has left in little snippets of the vocal which really give the Dub its own characteristic. Superb stuff yet again from this guy.

Mark Found steps up to the remix desk with his Red Heart Remix. Very much on form, Mark is fresh off the back of his remix for Blufeld’s A World Less Ordinary which charted well across many sites. Prior to this he had a run of appearances on many compilations with the most recent being Bonzai’s WMC 2015 package. We hope to see more from this guy in the future so stay tuned for more. The remix intros with a surreal sequence as strange voices are joined by eerie sounds and a cool rising arp that dominates the sound. Chunky kicks and crispy hats deliver a solid groove as a deep bass probes its way through. Big stabby synths litter the groove and are soon joined by more menacing, distorted synths that build a wall of sound. At the midway point the break unleashes a myriad of sounds that raid the senses before we get thrust right back into the thick of it for the duration. Top notch from Mark yet again.

TRIBAL WARRIORS – REVIVAL (BONZAI PROGRESSIVE)

Tribal Warriors aka M.I.K.E. Push returns to Bonzai Progressive with the two track tech fest, Revival. Last time out, at the start of 2015, we saw Defiance gain a lot of support from all quarters. Since then, as you would imagine, M.I.K.E. Push continues on his relentless musical journey filled with worldwide DJ appearances and a ton of studio work. His Club Elite Sessions is going strong with a huge fan base and top DJ guests making regular appearances. Always worth keeping an eye on this guy, he never disappoints.

Revival intros with a very cool techy vibe as punchy kicks are joined by razor sharp closed hats and snappy claps. Warm, rounded analogue basses accompanied by brighter synths cascade downwards and deliver a real smooth groove before a gritty sub bass bursts through. Sweeping pads make an appearance and bring a cool contrasting flavour and textured layer. After a short break filled with an array of shuffling hats we are treated to a sublime filtered arp that captivates as it weaves its way through the sound. A brilliant display of progressive house with a fusion of tech, superb stuff.

Alpha Beta sets off with an in your face pounding chunky kick and harsh hats that slice through the sound to the backdrop of cool noise effects. A warm and full bassline fades through and really gets the groove moving with a little help from some organic sounds and cool techno induced blips. The track goes through a series of peaks and troughs as the layers build resulting in some intense climactic sequences. Definitely one for the bouncier floors here and a must have track in your collection.
