Nico Parisi and Gai Barone have joined forces in the studio and came up with the stunningly deep progressively charged ‘Perla’ which is packed full with four brilliant remixes. The guys have both been on fire lately with their own works, Nico’s ‘Soulit’ gained rave reviews from many quarters while Gai’s ‘Cartaria’ continues to perform well all over. We’ve seen some exciting partnerships over the years at Bonzai and this one will no doubt be the start of something great with the hope of more to come, watch this space.
We get started with the Original Mix which intros with a punchy kick and some very cool percussions, but the big draw on the intro is the haunting background sounds that will send a chill down your spine. A deep growling bass takes the track further into the progressive depths as those haunting sounds continue. The bass intensifies as the track unfolds with the help of dark pads. The short break leads us directly back into full on mode as this relentless journey reaches its climax. Superb stuff and sure to be a hit with many!
Philthy Chit aka UK based producer Phil Taylor is first up on remix duty. Phil is a very popular choice for remixing as he has the Midas touch when it comes to reworking original tracks with his own brand of the darker side of progressive. That’s exactly what we get here. The intro gets the grooves flowing with a great breaks type beat along with cool percussive elements and shored up with a stuttering bass. Haunting soundscapes stay true to the original as the track gathers pace with the introduction of a nice chunky kick and crispy hat combi. The track builds and builds and climax with a superb vocal sample and a full on gritty vibe that takes us through to the end. Great stuff yet again from Phil, not to be missed.
Dutch DJ, producer and Bonzai regular Thorin delivers another stunning remix. Thorin has had a whole raft of top class cuts in recent times and is always ready to step up to the remix plate. His last outing on Bonzai Progressive, ‘Hallucinogen’ was very well received indeed and since then he has been responsible for many fantastic remixes, including this one. The track intros with a strong thumping kick and consistent arp sequence and backed up with a round of rhythmic percussions. Deep droning bass pads sweep throughout the track and add an air of intensity to the sound. The main bass ploughs right through the track and gives it that wonderful progressive edge we love. Cool stabby synths build their way up to the break where we descend into the abyss before being slammed right back into the main groove with a vengeance. Absolute stomper of a track with epic qualities that will get a lot of attention.
Rise And Fall aka Russian DJ and producer Anton Vishniakov is up next with his remix. Recently we saw Rise and Falls’ ‘Imagination’ get a lot of attention just like his previous outings. He has a unique progressive style that really gets under your skin and here he holds no bounds as we are treated to a stunning display of craftsmanship. A very understated intro sets us off as a simple kick is joined by distant hats and some fantastic percussions. The backdrop to this is a truly mesmerizing sequence of sinister sounding pads and a heartbeat type bass sound. All these sounds blend perfectly as the main track gets into full swing with the addition of chunky kick and a deep, pulsing bass. As the layers build you get locked in to this sound with its tough, gritty edge. You will not want this to end, a definite must for the darker sets for sure!
Belarusian Dmitry Molosh makes his Bonzai debut with a wonderful remix. Dmitry is no stranger to the scene as he has released a huge amount of tracks across many labels. He is a DJ and producer who built up huge respect from his peers as he worked his way around the circuit having played in lots of small venues which ultimately led to the bigger clubs. His desire for progressive house drew him to production where he has built up a large portfolio of works and got him in touch with other worldwide talents. Here, on the remix the track intros with a smooth ubiquitous vibe as well rounded kicks and sharp hats combine with a cool arp sequence. Warm pads come through alongside sweet melodic strings before an absolutely stunning bassline takes over. A beautifully melancholic synth contrasts well with the somewhat summery bassline to great effect. A stomper of a track that will be perfect fodder for those late night terrace sessions!

Relaunch delivers another of his stunning packs with his ‘Camis Minor EP’ which comprises four tough edged progressive monsters. Maik’s productions are top class and he has seen much support across Joof and Bonzai in recent months along with other works for various outfits.
First up we have the title track ‘Camis Minor’, right from the off we are thrust into a driving progressive groove with punchy kicks and a pulsating bass that provides the power behind the track. Tight drum and percussion patterns give off a steady rhythmic flow as the sounds gather pace around the track. Perfectly tweaked stabby synths lead us to the break where a beautiful lush pad takes over before crashing back into full on mode. Top notch stuff yet again from Relaunch.
‘Cygnus’ packs a huge punch as it delves right into a full on progressive stomper from the get go. Chunky kicks are accompanied by crispy hats providing a smooth rhythm and laced with bubbly basses that seem to just materialise from nowhere. We get a sense of Relaunch’s Psy roots as the synth line along with that powerful bassline will attest. Perfectly placed acid squelches add tough character to the sound while on the break we are taken on a sublime ride as the synths and pads take hold. Progressive, edgy house that will do well on many floors for sure.
‘Despina’ intros with a monster kick and sharp hat combo with a contrasting melodic synth bringing up the rear. A strong plucky bassline throbs throughout and gives the track a purely progressive vibe. Synth patterns form up nicely and take us up to the break where the bass is joined by cool arps and lush pads creating intricate melodies for us to enjoy. The track eases back into the groove for a fantastic journey through prog house at its best!
Lastly we have ‘Rhea’ which intros with a beautifully crafted sequence of bass pulses, FX and pads. A big and ballsy kick adds weight to the intro and the track soon settles in for an epic ride as melodic synth patterns begin to rise. The break unleashes a wave of euphoria as we are taken into a brilliantly crafted build up that will have the hairs on your body rise. Superb track and one that will gain a lot of attention, no doubt!
Spanish DJ and producer Alex Vidal debuts on Bonzai Progressive with the fantastic ‘Solar Citadel’ which comes complete with two stunning remixes. Alex found a passion for music at a very young age when he learned to play Spanish guitar and piano. He grew up listening a wide range of music from the 80’s & 90’s, the likes of The Cure, Depeche Mode, A-Ha, New Order, The Cult, Nirvana and Metallica, are just some of the bands that shaped his youth. He started to DJ in the early 90’s playing techno, trance & house in local clubs and private parties.
The Original Mix kicks off our journey into the deeper recesses of progressive house with a sublime intro filled with dark drones and contrasted with bright melodic flavours. Those drones build tension beautifully as the track evolves to the backing of a tight drum arrangement. The bassline forms a solid platform for the track as it packs a huge punch within the sound and is the perfect match for the fleeting melodic sequences. The break reveals a whole new level on the melody front as we are drawn deeper into the vibe before crashing out the other end and back into this relentless groove. Superb debut from Alex and sure to turn a lot of heads.
One of Bonzai’s top rated in-house remix artists, Manu Riga, is called upon to deliver his unique brand of the deeper stuff. Manu Riga’s Weird Dreams Remix goes into a surreal world filled with a wonderful combination of sounds. The intro boasts a punchy kick with wispy melodic phrases floating by. The bass is a big focus here as it pulsates throughout the sound beautifully and offers a deep rooted groove to the track. As the track progresses we are introduced to a stunning display of pads and strings that really move to captivate your mind as they weave intricate melodic sequences. Weird Dreams indeed as this track will definitely take you far far away, awesome stuff.
Up next we have the Lonely Sun & Nicolas Agudelo Remix. This Columbian music production duo are the latest addition to the Bonzai family. The guys joined forces in 2013 and released their track ‘Mistweaver’ on Vacate Music and Vacate Exclusive. Nicolas Agudelo is one of Colombia’s most promising electronic artists, his diverse, elaborate releases are supported by major DJ’s as well as underground DJ’s all around the world. Lonely Sun aka Daniel Cabrera is an emerging producer whose love for electronic music started very early in his life while listening to 80s and 90s music, he found he was fascinated by the sounds of the synths and percussions that were of that time. So he studied to become a DJ and also studied electronic music production. Here the guys really shine on their Bonzai remix debut with deep and dark beauty of a track. Nice chunky kick led intro with rising pads that lead smoothly into one of the warmest basslines you’ll hear as it effortlessly controls the groove with perfectly timed note changes. The background sounds create a perfectly balanced contrast and keep this track firmly in the depths. After the short break the track takes a melodic turn that really beefs up the sound and makes this a definite must have for any set.
