JAMIE BAGGOTTS – THE CHANT (BONZAI PROGRESSIVE)

UK based DJ and producer Jamie Baggotts is back at BP with The Chant. His debut a few months ago made waves in all the right places and charted well across many platforms. Jamie keeps up his pacey progressive style this time around on this superb two tracker.

The Chant gets us right into the heart of driving progressive grooves with its acid styled basslines and tight drum arrangement. A deep, much more powerful bass sits underneath the rolling acid lines beautifully providing great depth to the sound. On top a sweeping female vocal mesmerizes the mind for the duration. This epic monster just keeps on giving, at the midway point a sublime transformation takes place and the groove is ramped up a notch as the bassline drives on relentlessly. Rising synths fade through and take us up to the break where the synths weave out intricate melodies coupled with that fantastically constructed bass sequence. Definitely a track for the late night sessions due to the pure epicness within.

The Voyager intros with a nice punchy kick and distant sounding percussion sequence. A sinister pad lurks behind as the drum arrangement gathers pace and is joined soon after by an expertly crafted bass pattern filled with cascading arp notes. A short break reveals a brilliant synth that fades out to leave us with a full on driving progressive groove. Bright melodic synth riffs enter the fray and take on a euphoric flavour that leave the hairs on your neck at attention. On the break the bass keeps the groove flowing before a wonderful synth lead delivers a huge build up filled with a massive riser like an oncoming swarm of bees and the crashes back into the main sound for the duration. Another epic fuelled prog monster here that will definitely turn a few heads.

You Are Contagious is a definite peak time track with it’s tough edged, tribal infused grooves. We get sucked right into this groove from the get go as a deep, throbbing bass bubbles up from the depths alongside some expertly placed sounds and FX. Classic house styled chord stabs litter the sound and lead us seamlessly into the more progressively charged side of the track with the addition of ethnically charged voices and tribalistic drum sequences. On the break is where this track really lifts off, deep droning basses converge as bright melodic leads splatter across the spectrum alongside rich sweeping strings. The voices come to the fore before tribal drums get us back into the beat driven rhythms. A roof raiser for sure you will not want to miss.

Roots takes us deep into the darker side of progressive with its haunting intro filled with chunky beats and ghostly scraping sounds. A myriad of one shot hits litter the arrangement and add wonderful textures to the sound. A real deep rooted vibe emerges as the pulsating basses lock horns with the superb tribal beats. The haunting theme is greatly enhance with an absolute gem of a female whispering vocal that will send shivers down your spine. Throughout the track we get treated to many ethnic sounds but the stand out moment is a didgeridoo riff that is placed so perfectly in the composition. Another must have track that will be right at home in the middle of your set.

RUSLAN VASHKEVICH – ASHUAR (BONZAI PROGRESSIVE)

Russian DJ and producer Ruslan Vashkevich returns to BP after his debut Simargl back in October 2014. This time around on Ashuar, we are treated to three top notch cuts that will get those progressive juices flowing. The title track Ashuar, intros with nice punchy kick drum and cool percussive hits that steadily build up into a full blown rhythm section. Rich strings fade through creating a sublime atmosphere alongside some very cool FX. The bass brings the progressive groove of the track to the fore as it meanders through the sound beautifully with its plucky vibe and clipped edges. A deep hypnotic groove ensues that will have you locked on for the duration.

I’m Fine, What’s Happening picks up the pace a bit with an up-tempo kick that takes us into a rising offset synth and a pulsing bass combi. The synths transform throughout with varying degrees of pitch and modulation. A tight drum arrangement provides a solid rhythm that will keep the feet moving on the floors no doubt. This track will fit nicely into the faster paced sets and bring a nice slice of energy to the proceedings.

Jene Nete takes on a real smooth progressive flow from the outset with its lazy bass and shuffling rhythms. A tight arrangement keeps everything in check as distant pads begin to rise in the background. The break descends into total silence before that punchy kick brings us back into the main groove. Quite a minimalistic vibe that solidifies the saying that less is more, and with Jene Nete this is true. A definite must have track for those late night sets.
