CHRONO – PANTIHOUSE (SOUNDS R US RECORDINGS)

Chrono aka Zoltan Salai returns to SRUR after a short hiatus with his ten track album entitled ‘Pantihouse’. We last saw Chrono with his collaboration with studio partner Ascaloon and their ‘Balkan Express EP’. Zoltan began his musical journey at an early age with DJing being his big focus with many gigs all over the country. He soon met up with Otto (Ascaloon) and they began to organise parties all over Serbia and they were tagged as the “new generation”, like his friend he soon found himself on the producing side and the results speak for themselves.

The album kicks off with ‘Blues feeling’ which intros with a solid, thumping kick complete with sharp hats. A strong plucky bass is unleashed alongside a brilliantly tweaked blues style vocal. Silky smooth deep vibes and the perfect intro for this sublime journey.

Next up we have the Deep Version of ‘Rail Road’ that starts life with a rhythmic percussion arrangement before a well rounded kick sets the track off. The bassline is introduced soon after and gives the sound a cool bounce to dance to. Deep house styled chords come through alongside a round of silky keys and a smooth female vocal snippet. Perfect fodder for any deeper set.

‘Flight’ continues this journey into deep tech with a very cool percussive intro with a few bass shots thrown in. We gather pace as a pumping kick enters the fray and sets the mood perfectly. A very subtle yet hugely effective deep bass pulsates through the sound as expert FX work creates varying textures along with vocal samples thrown in. Superb stuff!

Next up we have ‘Mother Road’ which stays true to the albums theme, very percussive intro that leads into a powerful stomping kick. The vocal samples are outstanding a give the track great character while a myriad of drums provide solid rhythms for the dancing feet. An infectious deep and low bass sends reverberations through the sound as the layers continue to form. Surreal atmospheres are apparent as the contrast between the basses, chords and vocal blend beautifully.

‘Shake That Ass’ goes for an all out club fuelled dance tune. Nice chunky kicks and crispy percs provide the rhythms for this pumped up deep house groove. Bright chords keep the groove flowing while the long released bass will force you to shake it. The track is complimented with an upbeat ‘shake that ass’ vocal. A definite must on those bouncier floors!

‘Slim Fit’ takes us further into tech with a cool punchy kick and sharp percussion intro which leads into a lush piano chord. Surreal sweeping pads fade through alongside some vocal samples and lead up to a smooth bit of piano play. The bass takes the track deeper as it throbs throughout the groove and is joined by a grittier companion. Stark contrasts abound here and they come together beautifully.

The Original Mix of ‘Rail Road’ sets off in classic style with cool percussions and a nice phat kick combi. The bass takes control of the track early on and dominates throughout as it wields its powerful sub sounds that will no doubt have the speakers rocking. The vocal comes in nicely and is joined by some very cool keys that give the track a dynamic edge and one that will no doubt feature in many sets.

‘Train Signal’ brings us a perfectly arranged party tune for the floors. A cool and fun bassline pulsates through the sound and will have the party people jumping for sure. An element of funk comes through in a delicious sax riff while the drum arrangements deliver a solid rhythmic workout with an offset synth adding an extra bounce to the sound. Again we see some very cool vocal samples used which really set the track up nicely and makes this a must for any box this summer.

‘Wildlife’ takes us deeper still with a fantastic low end bass doing most of the work. Tightly arranged patterns dish out smooth rhythmic vibes giving this track a big dance factor. Aside from the bass we are treated to a brilliant display of keys that give the sound a beautiful deep house groove. Lots going on here and is definitely not to be missed.

We end this sublime album with ‘Pantihouse’, slightly more laid back due to the slower BPM’s, but still packing a huge punch. Chunky kicks and sharp, crisp percussion keep the rhythms flowing as a deep throbbing bass dominates the track. The vocal sample arrangements are spot on and blend superbly with the short synth shots. The perfect ending to this journey through deep techy house and will be a definite must for you collection!
