EPISODE 74: Philthy Chit – Southbound On The Northern Line (Bonzai Progressive)

DJs PHILTHY CHIT aka Phil Taylor and Chitra Kumar are two people whose sole aim in dance music is to make people realise that music matters. They pride themselves on being clubbers before DJs and it is this perspective on dance music which keeps them rooted to what it is people want to hear when they see them play. Their passion for creating sets with vibrant, energetic and emotive dance music is unique amongst todays up and coming artists.

Moving away from the minimal scene which has for so long confined dance music, they look to bring back the ecstasy into house music through their performances. With their influences spanning a wide range; deep into trance and progressive house of an ERIC PRYDZ nature, to the raw techno influences of people such as SLAM, their unique sound embodies everything that dance music should do. Their ability to bring together euphoric, thought provoking melodies and chunky driving bass-lines through seamless progressive mixing using loops and effects imaginatively, keep the crowd engaged at every level.

Through their own hard work they have created one of Manchester’s finest electronic nights with a zealous following. People travel from both ends of the country each month just to be a part of the special clubbing community which they have created in AGENDA. Using this as a platform to take their message to the dance hungry folk of Manchester they have gained an underground reputation for their ability to mix at a professional level and play sets the likes of which they can confidently say cannot be heard anywhere else. The atmosphere they create for clubbers is one of unity and completeness, something they were proud to share with the likes of DJ HARRI, the founder of Glasgow’s legendary underground night Sub Culture @the (infamous) Sub Club, when he played with them for Agenda’s 1st birthday last November.

This year will see Philthy Chit grow from strength to strength, with top artists from labels such as Bedrock and Anjuna Beats all waiting to play at AGENDA and take on their unique sound. They represent artists who are to be distinguished solely by their exceptional natural talent and the musical principles they hold rather than hype or fashion. To think that they have achieved so much yet they have only been DJing for over 18 months speaks volumes about their passion and ability to perform.
