Cristian Pieters bought his first 7” when he was about 10 years old and it didn’t take long before he also installed a complete deejay set-up inclusive disco-ball and light-tracks in his bedroom.

He did his first dj gigs when he was 16 at a club called La Scala in Blankenberge. Although he had already played pop and rock in popular student bars in Antwerp before that. He also stood behind the decks during the last months of the famous AB Club in Antwerp where he played more experimental as well as mainstream stuff such as Carlos Peron, Unknown Cases, Max Berlin, Simple Minds, etc….

At the end of the 80’ies he opened the Blitz club which quickly turned into a meeting-point for dj’s. From there the requests for Fly to play at other clubs flooded in to a point where he was more away than at the club.

In 1992 he became, together with Yves Deruyter, resident in the Cherrymoon club in Lokeren. Those were magical times with lots of international guests and an ecstatic public.

The immense success led to the launch of Bonzai records in 1994. The label released uncountable big hits and the famous Bonzai sound got known over the whole world.

Soon after, Fly became resident in another institution in the Belgian night-life nl. Extreme till the end of ’97. His dj-ing didn’t stay limited to his residencies nor Belgium for that matter … He became a well loved and regularly invited guest at some of the most prestigious festivals in the world as Mayday (3x), Love Parade ( 6x), Street Parade (Zurich), Future Shock, Mysteryland, Dance Valley, Tribal Gathering, …

Next to those, he took control of the decks in more than 500 clubs over the whole world. Some of the important ones were: E-Werk (Berlin), Technoclub (Frankfurt), Limelight & Palladium (New York), Queen (Paris), ….

He shared the decks with a.o. Sven Väth, Carl Cox, Marusha, Westbam, Cj Bolland, Ron Trent, Humate, Hooligan, Jeff Mills, Richie Hawtin, Robert Armani, Tiesto,…..

Next to his own dj-career, he has always actively helped new talent. To do so, he launched numerous labels under Bonzai Music and helped to spread the music that launched the careers of artists such as Yves Deruyter, Jones & Stephenson, Bountyhunter, Insider, …. ( in the early days ) and names as Airwave, Kevin Vega, George Vemag, …( more recently).

Before 2003 he also built and managed several Bonzai recording studios where the artists could do their thing and where they created that world famous Bonzai sound. Those releases were then distributed by Bonzai Records and the artists were pushed through the Bonzai Booking agency. Next to that Fly was also at the head of the Bonzai recordshop, a game shop and the – as never seen before from any label – extensive merchandising, the result of high public demand ! During many years, it was impossible to go to any European event without seeing the T-shirts, caps, stickers or other images of the Bonzai logo.

Shortly after the fall of Lightning Records ( a result of the drastic decrease in cd and vinyl sales ) , Fly started Banshee Worx, with his longtime right hand Marnik, and started to concentrate on the digital market. With great success as Banshhe Worx/Bonzai music now owns about 20 to 30 own labels as well as distributing close to a 100 worldwide.

And now Fly is hungry for the dance-floors again as he feels it’s time to spread the Bonzai fever back from door to door. That’s why – after a long break – he will reclaim his dj status. He will do this for the first time on Friday, September 4th when he’s re-launching his residency with Yves Deruyter at Cherrymoon and on the new Bonzai Progressive Kult parties in Mechelen, starting October !

The Bonzai master is back …. better watch out for the new Bonzai Madness !!!!
