SOFT KNEES – LOST TAPES (BONZAI ELEMENTAL)

Finnish producing duo, Soft Knees, make a welcome return to Bonzai, this time around they show up on Bonzai Elemental with the sublime three tracker Lost Tapes. Soft Knees intros with a super smooth and grooving arrangement filled with cool electric guitars, deep droning basses and a slow drum creating a beautiful atmosphere. Distant voices come through and have a huge impact on the sound as the intensity rises with a nod to prog rock through electrified guitar riffs. A simply stunning slice of music that you need in your collection.

Cosmos Got The Blues takes us on a journey right into the heart of a blissed out, euphoric groove. The track meanders along at a steady pace and offers up some real cool synth sequences that rise consistently throughout. Subtle melodies filter through also and accompany the dirty style bass brilliantly. The second half of the track delves into the murky world of the blues as electric guitars unleash their woe laden riffs. Hypnotic and mesmerizing, you will definitely come back for more on this one.

AI Dub rounds off this fantastic pack with its surreal intro filled with spoken words sounding off numbers as a soft and melodic synth rises up. A very warm bass soon joins in alongside a smooth drum arrangement before a much dirtier synth takes over. As the track progresses you can feel the intensity rise as those synths become beefier and take on a much more organic flavour. A very cool breaks – rock hybrid that is chock full of wonderful electronic sounds.

SOFT KNEES – REFLEXION (BONZAI PROGRESSIVE)

Soft Knees aka Finnish duo Antti Mantysaari and Jarno Kilpia are back to BP with ‘Reflexion’. The guys’ last outing ‘Couchclocking’ gained support from many quarters and here we will no doubt be treated to more of the same.

The Original Mix sets off with a nicely tweaked kick with cool clip on the top, these beats set the scene beautifully and are soon followed by a bubbly bassline that controls the low end with ease. Sweeping synths make a show and become a big feature of the sound as they tease out a cool melody. The rhythms really let loose with the aid of some tight drum patterns while on the break things whittle down to just those sweepy synths and some stunning acid lines. Superb progressive house sounds that will do well on any floor.

The ever popular Kevin Vega steps up to remix duty first. Kevin is fresh off the back of his stunning ‘Andromeda’ which marked his return to BP after a short break. Here he pulls out all the stops once more to deliver s surreal slice of progressive goodness. The intro boasts a dominating percussion section alongside a nice and chunky kick, this sets up the groove perfectly as the rhythms slowly unwind at the start of this epic ride. Subtle pads begin to fade through and bring with them a hint of melody making you want more. The bass shatters into the sound and transforms the track so beautifully giving it that real progressive edge. A story is to be told in the ever evolving melodies and that makes this track a truly awesome listening experience, top notch yet again!

UK based Cordoba aka Lloyd Trimmer gives us his remix and what a job this guy does yet again. Lloyd’s latest track ‘Surface’ has been performing extremely well on the circuit and on download portals, this is a testament to the quality on offer from a talented producer. Here the remix intros with a full on progressive flavour, chunky kicks and crispy hats provide a solid platform for hypnotic synths and a superb rolling bassline which becomes infectious after just a short time. The break focuses on stabby synths with the bass rising up from the depths to take us back into this absolutely stunning slice, a must for any box!

Smok debuts on Bonzai Progressive with his remix and what an impression he makes. The track intros with a cool deep flavour as chunky kicks pump out a lush groove. Smooth deep synth stabs are the perfect companion for the plucky bass, the bass itself is a real groovy affair which will have you on the dancefloor pronto! Tight drum arrangements provide for a solid and steady rhythmic feel and on the break this continues with some nice percussion alongside a cool funky element. Top stuff for this guys debut and a must for those groovier progressive sets.

SOFT KNEES – COUCHCLOCKING (BONZAI ELEMENTAL)

Antti Mantysaari and Jarno Kilpia make up Finnish duo Soft Knees. The guys get together every few weeks for a weekend to see what type of music they happen to create during this time resulting in some stunning pieces. Here the guys make their Bonzai debut with the surreal three tracker ‘Couchclocking’.

First up we have ‘Couchclocking’, the intro fades in with whispery FX and a very cool bass which sets up the mood perfectly. A real slow groove ensues with melodic synths coming through alongside a sweet vocal. The track evolves beautifully as more instruments enter the mix with each providing their own cool melody, while towards the end another vocal pops up in a surprising twist. Very smooth downtempo to get you in the mood for a nice relaxing evening.

‘Cirrus’ sets off with a fading in bass and is soon joined by a sublime synth and contrasting melodic plucks. Beautiful chord changes make a huge impact on the sound and the track soon delves into a blissful world filled with melody and a backdrop of reverbed snares. A classic rock vibe is moulded into shape by a fantastic electric guitar sequence which works so well within the track. An epic journey not to be missed, superb stuff.

‘Nebula Dive’ takes on a spacey theme as you could imagine. The arrangement on the drums alone would be a perfect candidate for some of the early prog rock tracks and has a huge impact here. A melodic arp sweeps through the sound with a multitude of instruments bringing up the rear. Deep droning basses add a beautiful depth to the vibe. The tune matures wonderfully with the focus directed towards those big drums and melodies. Simply stunning and the perfect companion for those contemplative moments.
