LUIS BRAVO – BUBBLES & DUES EP (MONOG RECORDS)

One of Monog’s best known and prolific artists returns with more deep tech goodness for our listening pleasure. Luis Bravo delivers his two track Bubbles & Dues EP and once more we’re blown away with this guys’ creativity and professional approach. He stands out as a highly respected artist in his field, striving to maintain quality sounds in everything he does and this is evident just by listening to his work. His last appearance on Monog was back in November 2015 on remix duties for Pulse8’s Feel the Way EP, delighted to have him back for more.

Bubbles sets off with a silky smooth warm vibe that slowly builds up into a solid slice of deep techno goodness. A tight drum arrangement leads the charge which is backed up by shuffling hats that generate a fine flowing rhythm. The low end dominates here though, those bass melt into the groove beautifully and are accompanied by perfectly placed percussions for maximum effect. A classic vibe can be felt off this one, a floor mover for sure.

Dues opens with crispy hats and sharp claps that form up into a cool rhythmic shuffle. Nice and chunky kick drums soon follow with a deep pounding bass in tow. The drums here are exquisite, they’re tightly packed into a solid arrangement that flows effortlessly. The techno groove just oozes out of this one thanks to some gritty synths and that huge bass. A nicely building track that will be a welcome addition to any late night techno set.

NYVS – THE A AND THE ALPHA EP (MONOG RECORDS)

Nyvs returns to Monog with the superb four track EP entitled The A and the Alpha. This one comes after he debuted back in the Summer of 2015 on Monog’s 50th release alongside Sugark and their Arco-Iris EP. Prepare yourselves for some beautifully constructed minimal sounds. Iuiny intros with a nice thumpy kick drum that packs a massive punch and remains the driving force throughout. The kicks are joined by cool crispy hats and raspy sounds that create a dark minimal vibe. Sharp voices deliver a surreal narrative to the sound as various sounds come and go. Space age synths also play a part in this superb, deep and grooving track, excellent stuff.

Kipari sets off with a nice pounding kick drum as a deep minimalistic bass fills the low end. A dark chanting vocal comes through and sits perfectly within the lush tones of the track. Cool percussions are scattered throughout and provide a steady rhythm as the groove goes deeper with each layer. Top notch stuff for a late night session.

Assist is the epitome of a deep and raw minimal groove. Chunky kicks and sparse percussions deliver a solid workout while a pulsing low end bass drives the groove deeper underground. Soft piano chords fade into the sound and are accompanied by some very cool vocals. A wonderful display that will definitely turn a few heads.

Digital Foam delivers a real smooth, lush deep groove that carries sultry tones which emanate from soft organs. A well crafted percussion section adds cool rhythms to the sound, but it’s the darker tones that keep you locked on for the duration. Curious FX create colourful textures and blend perfectly with the synths and keys. A fantastic slice of deep techno you will not want to miss.

PULSE8 – FEEL THE WAY EP (MONOG RECORDS)

Rogerio Romao and Micael Dias aka Pulse8 debut on Monog with the superb Feel The Way EP. This exciting project was born out of a collaboration between two artists with very different backgrounds and influences. They’ve joined together to create a unique sound that is not bound by genres, but purely good taste. They utilise various media formats in their DJ sets to deliver their intricate mixes filled with quality sounds that create emotions and tell a story. Great to have the guys on board and we hope to see more from them soon.

First up we have the Original Mix which intros with a nice punchy kick drum and some cool crispy hats that are soon joined by snappy claps to really get the rhythm flowing. A wonderful deep probing bass lurks on the low end settling us into a solid groovy mover. The vocals really stand out here and offer great character to the sound. As the layers build we find ourselves totally hooked into this one as it hypnotises our senses. Superb stuff that will definitely be a welcome addition in any set.

The Dub Mix offers up the same deep exploration as the Original but with minimal vocal and a slightly darker tone. Still a must have track that will beef up any late night grooving set.

Portuguese DJ and producer and a Monog firm favourite Luis Bravo delivers his fantastic remix. We last saw Luis back in March with his remix of Kruno Kereta’s Ball & Chain EP, although he has shown up on various compilations for Bonzai and on Monog’s 5 year celebration – Monog Records 5 Years Side By Side. Always a pleasure getting this guys work in the inbox and we are sure to see much more from him in the future. The remix sets out with a real cool urbanised theme as punchy kicks join crispy hats and a distant vocal that echoes in and out. A lush, warm chord teases us as the percussions start to ramp up the rhythm. The vocals sit perfectly within the sound here and keep you locked on to the narrative throughout. The bass takes all the glory here, a smooth, deep subby pulse that will really shake up the bass bins no doubt. A top notch slice of deep techy house that is a must have track for your collection.

NYVS & SUGARK – ARCO-IRIS EP (MONOG RECORDS)

Monog Records celebrates its 50th release with the superb Acro-Iris EP from debutants Nyvs & Sugark. Nyvs started listening to various forms of music, from hip hop to punk and rock to electronic. But it was electronic music that caught his ear and he grew into this sound more and more. Now, totally hooked, he has been twiddling the knobs for over 10 years and we are delighted to have him here at Monog. Sugark has followed electronic music since he was just 14 years old. He grew up listening to Dave Clarke, Laurent Garnier and Plastikman to name a few. DJing has taken him all over Europe where he delivers his intense and melodic vinyl sets, another fine addition to the stable.

First up we have the Original Mix with its slow, meandering groove filled with deep, lush basses and surreal mesmerizing sequences. Cool shuffling hats and percussions keep the rhythm steady as rising synths lock horns with gritty arps and superb low end tones. A definite must have for those late night sets to keep your mind open and body flowing.

Tunis based DJ and producer Anis Hachemi is up first on remix duty and delivers a solid deep house cut with a sprinkling of techy vibes over the top. Anis is an unashamed lover of hardware based production and loves the 303’s, 808’s and 909’s. Under his alias Sin Tek he has racked up a hugely impressive discography on many top labels since 2007 and continues to ply his trade in style with a hands on approach. The remix ramps up the energy levels with a superb upbeat vibe that delivers a nice chunky kick and a tight drum section that will have the floors moving for sure. Warm basses wash over the sound beautifully as hypnotic tones sweep through. Subtle rising and dropping FX paint some very cool textures into the sound as a distant voice lurks in the rear. The break throws up a stylish distorted lead that blends into the sound with ease before we get shuffled back into the main groove for the duration. Top notch stuff that will definitely turn a few heads.

Portuguese-Finnish music producer and DJ, Monoritmo aka Miguel Parreira delivers the first of two remixes that will get the deep tech house juices flowing for sure. Based in Portugal and Spain, this guy is all about the music and loves all things Electronica, Techno and House. This remix takes us on a surreal journey through electronica as spiralling, complex synths cascade across the sound to the backdrop of a solid kickdrum and steady percussions. The bass has a raw edge that probes deep into your soul forcing you to move to its rhythm. Intricate drum patterns sit perfectly in the groove and allow those wonderfully crafted synths to do their thing. Superb stuff that will blow your mind wide open.

Monoritmo’s second effort in this pack, the Alternative Mix, focuses in on those organic synths that play havoc through the sound in a seemingly chaotic fashion, yet they hold a perfectly timed structure that takes your imagination further and further into the abyss. This hypnotic groove is shored up by that brilliant bassline and those rhythmic drum patterns. Another fine slice from this guy, and a difficult choice for you to make as to which one to play, just play both.

JOAL – MY FAVORITE OUTFIT (MONOG RECORDS)

Monog Records label boss Joal heads up our next release with the fantastic My Favourite Outfit EP which comes complete with three top notch remixes as well as the original. Joal has been running Monog since 2009 and he remains committed to sourcing only the best sounds to get on the books. Joal also releases his works on various other labels including Selador, Knee Deep in Sound and High Strings to name just a few. On top of that he is currently developing his live act which is well worth checking out on Youtube.

The Original Mix intros with a very cool thumping kick that is accompanied by equally fresh percussions that deliver a nice retro theme. A long, easy bass note rings out and gets us settled into the deep tech groove. We go deeper into the sound with a wonderful acid line that fades in from nowhere and totally dominates the groove. Big stabby synths fill in the gaps and add a kind of futuristic vibe that contrasts well with the deeper, retro elements. On the break we get treated to a smooth, subtle breakbeat as the cosmic synths are joined by an eerie high string and cool spoken vocals. A strong build up takes us back to the main sound for the duration of this superb slice of tech, a must have for sure.

Berlin based Pascal Hetzel debuts on Monog with his fantastic remix. DJ and producer Pascal has spent the last few years conquering the Berlin’s bustling club scene and along the way he has released his music through various labels including Sound Of Vast, Upon You Records, Non Pop Records, Wood Recordings and many more. As well as playing at top gigs in Berlin, Pascal has played around the world at various top venues including at the Analog Room in Dubai and Resolute in New York City. The remix intros with a solid kick that packs a nice punch and sits snugly amidst an ever increasing array of drums and percussions. Soft plinks and plonks dissolve into the sound in a playful manner that gives the impression of being trapped inside an 8bit video game. These sounds keep the vibe firmly locked into a techno groove that builds and builds to become even more surreal. The bass offers up a smooth warmth to the sound that contrast beautifully with the higher frequencies. A superb display of tech grooves that will both captivate and invigorate.

Berlin based, Portuguese DJ and producer Jepe debuts on Monog with the first of two remixes. Jepe started out in 1994 on local radio stations in Portugal, which led to his first residency in the Estacao La Luz club, a residency he has held since 1997. From here he got in production and has released on many top labels including Let’s Play House, Circle Music, Cecille Records, Brown Eyed Boyz, Beef Records and Get Physical as well as his own label, Blossom Kollektiv. A much revered artist who has played all over the world, we are delighted to have this guy on board. The Let’s Celebrate remix intros with a nice and strong punchy kick alongside rhythmic percussions that will get the feet dancing on the floors. Strange sweeping synths come through and add a metallic edge to the sound as the tech layers build. Cool vocals litter the sound throughout and add character to the track creating a very fresh rhythmic groove. The low end sounds subtly ply their trade as this track is all about the drums and synths. A top notch relentless groove that will be a welcome addition in any set.

Jepe’s Stripped Raw Mix is up next and does exactly what the title suggests. Very smooth, rounded sounds blend perfectly to deliver a solid deep tech workout. The synths develop a little grit to beef things up a bit and add an edginess to the sound. The drums beat out a cool rhythmic groove that is joined by those cool vocals. Excellent stuff yet again from Jepe and a track that will not disappoint.
